In 2021 I completed a short documentary about a journalist and author named Kate Woods. Kate was the lead writer for “The Pinnacle” newspaper, based in San Benito County CA, during the late 1990s. Kate’s beat, for “The Pinnacle”, was to cover San Benito County politics, all county business and the environment. In 2011 she published her book, “Quicksilver Chronicles”, which was based on her weekly satire column “The Badlands”. This documentary portrays her story telling prowess with lightheartedness and entertainingly brings historical enlightenment about the infamous ghost town of New Idria and the abandoned mercury mining operation left from the 1800s.

This was amazingly well produced. I felt like I was watching PBS. We need more shots of the orange cat, though.

I know the seemingly endless effort and time it took to produce this documentary. -the long drives --herding Kate --- and endless editing to weave the stories. What an interesting person, and story of that place. I can't wait for the "... to be continued..." It's especially good to see the true and more of the complete person. YOU DID HER WELL! Well done!!! Its sad that they are all gone, Kemp and Kate were always fun to hang out with at Woods Ranch. RIP Porkchop, Ron Paul, Rascal and Mayor Orange.

Iv known Kate since I was a young kid I miss mayor orange 2 my dad fell I'll and we stopped visiting I miss them both

I enjoyed this, thanks for posting. We used to drive out to this area when we were bored tweenagers in the 90s. I actually think we might have run across Kate once.. we were stopped in the middle of road figuring out where we were going next and someone, who in my memory, looked and acted just like Kate in this video pulled up next to us and yelled "Are you looking for benitoite?" and we thought we were about to be murdered so we said "No.." and drove off. I could swear I saw her laughing in the mirror at us.
