Cynthia Erivo, enchanting star of the stage and screen, performs “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”, a song about unwavering love. Alongside the Rickey Minor Band, Erivo gives a passionate performance, bringing life and soul to Al Kooper’s words. NEXT at the Kennedy Center brings in the New Year with unforgettable performances by Cynthia Erivo, Ben Platt, and Joaquina Kalukango filled with love and hope.
Erivo has taken the world by storm since bursting onto the West End and Broadway stages in The Color Purple. An actress, singer, author, and producer, Erivo has received worldwide critical acclaim for her work, including Grammy®, Emmy®, and Tony® Awards.
Joining Erivo are her friends Tony®, Grammy®, and Emmy® Award winner Ben Platt and Tony®, Drama Desk® and Outer Critics Circle® Award winner Joaquina Kalukango. Ben Platt, known for his groundbreaking role in Dear Evan Hansen, has seamlessly transitioned from Broadway to the big screen with the film adaptation of the musical. His contributions to theater, film, and music, including chart-topping albums, highlight his multifaceted talent. As a child in the 1970s I would sit in from of my dad's record collection amd look at the covers. Sometimes he would play them for me. As long as I kept quiet and just listened. I remember the fern patterned carpet, the smell of cigarette smoke and the bright sun streaming through the window. I wish I had a child I could share this record with.

Dammit, I uncontrollably spontaneously combusted into tears in those last few notes! To evoke that instant emotion… at that point she’s just a vessel.. Whatever higher power u believe or don’t believe in, takes over her & shines out so bright that we’re blessed to just witness it in silent awe.. This woman is my new obsession & multitalented is an understatement. If I had a single hair strain’s worth of her talent I’d be a happy little nugget !

Wow! I've never heard anyone do this cover of Donny Hathaway's song before. Donny is one of my personal all-time favorite male singers. As a matter of fact, he is the 1st singer that I listened to on the radio. I was blown away with his beautiful voice. Even today, his songs still touch my soul like no other. His voice was definitely anointed. Gone too soon.

Amazing. I love Dakota’s Staton’s 1973 version of this Al Kooper (Blood, Sweat & Tears) ballad penned in 1968. He said “I could be the president of General Motors.” Dakota changed it to “I could be the president of Afro Sheen!”

Although I'm very much aware this is orginally an Al Kooper song, every cover seems to be based on Donny's rendition. Even the vocal delivery. Very interesting to see that sort of influence in a cover of a classic. And of course, Cynthia Erivo throws down on it with her own unique style.
