In this video we take the CZ 457 Varmint MTR rifle I personally use for PRS22 competition. We show accuracy out at 50 yards on paper with ELEY Tenex Ammunition and talk about the rifle based on my personal experience. We shoot the Eley Tenex in our 50 yard stock match ammo test with a stock CZ 457 MTR.
Benefits to the 457 MTR over a traditional 457 rifle is the Turkish walnut stock with plastic pillars as well as the very accurate match chamber barrel.

Thank you for the great 4 parts series, it addresses much of the issues I am checking myself. I am shooting a CZ457 with stock non MTR barrel and found out that Eley Match is by far the best for my rifle. In particular is doing very well at 100 yards with 0.5 moa groups on no wind days.

I'm just now finishing up my build and i'm getting very similar patterns with top tier stuff from my MTR barrel. A lot of cloverleafs with an occasional flier. Im hoping it will tighten up a bit more once broken in. Need to get a good FFP scope now so i can get some practice in.

If I was consistently getting .3 to .4 inch 5 shot groups at 50 yards I’d be doing cartwheels🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️ 🤸‍♂️ . However Josh is in the Pursuit of Accuracy so the search goes on for even more consistently accurate 22 long rifle ammunition. Great stuff 👍.

If anyone thinks there’s a possibility that Josh is the party responsible for the occasional flyer, he’s shooting a 9 pound rifle with an 8 oz trigger off a concrete slab for these 50 yard tests. If it’s not a “called” flyer, it’s the ammo.

I like to "reason with myself" that if it's slightly to the left or right (and there's no x-wind), it's a "flyer". If it's simply too high or too low, it's the ammo.

With the current ammo shortage I consider myself lucky to have CCI Standard stock piled. 10 cents each with built in flyers but sorting by primer thickness and getting 1/2” groups. Making KYL targets all the way to 8. Enjoy your videos and subscribed. 20 to 30 cents a round defeats the purpose of shooting a 22lr. Cheap, fun and long lasting the only way to fly.

Just wondering if you do your ammo tests from a clean bore and do you find that 10 rounds is good enough to season the barrel. I see so many posts about how many rounds to shoot to season the barrel. I have tried shooting up to 25 rounds of quality ammo and also shot 10 rounds of ammo with no noticable difference. So I am only shooting 10 rounds now.

@@PursuitofAccuracy You're welcome! Good work! I am doing similar tests with my CZ455. 22lr ammunition is really unpredictable in each barrel works different. I achieve good results even with the CCI Std....

Josh love the videos. I notice that it seems you have a tighter bolt closure which I assume is due to the headspace you use. Am I correct in what I see?

I have never had reliable consistency with Eley in my CZ MTR. The only ammo I use is SK. Its so far been the most consistent over time. In particular SK Flatnose Match.

Got to use whatever works, especially these days. If it were 2 years ago i would tell you to get a test lot package for whatever was in your price range but that doesnt exist in the pandemic

Was the velocity close to the same on both ammos. Try and find some Tenex with the same speed as your Match ammo.

Running Tenex through my MTR didn’t impress me much. I’ve been well-pleased with SK Standard Plus and have found that Eley Match and Eley Club outshot the Tenex.

The match ammo varies quite a bit lot to lot. The eley tenex, match, etc are actually the same ammo run off the same machines. Its sorted by standard deviation of mv and consistency and then placed for sale. Tenex will have the lowest sd followed by match and so on. This doesnt guarantee your gun will like it more but given your gun likes those particular lots of tenex and eley match the tenex will be better at distance. Same story with lapua and sk

Was looking for a review on eley tenex but everybody seems to prove it has to be shot out of a thousand-dollar rifle or better does anyone do a eley tenex review with just a regular 22

Best advice I can give ya is to look at whatever ammo is in your budget and figure out what youd like to shoot and test lots in that ammo.

Hey, added the same Lilja barrel to my cz457 and having trouble with ejecting spent round casings. Particularly with tenex, and sk ammo. I’ve set the headspace at .043. Any tips or ideas? Thinking to cut the headspace to .041...

Everyone has had that issue that i know of. I had to go down to .040 to get it to 100% extract tenex

Did .everything else eject at .040 ? Don’t shoot this tenex that much but definitely want everything to eject

@@Klay_Kennedy no problem at all. Just make sure bolt close feels smooth at .040 with a chambered round. I worked my way down 1 thou at a time until i got reliability

Is it difficult for you to have the target attached to something so that is does not move?

Nope. If you look at any of the later videos i made a target stand for 50 yard paper that resolved that issue

When your shooting groups adjust your scope to shot high so you don't shot your aiming point away

Yes you can buy a CZ or a voodoo and shoot some match ammo get tiny groups and it's very satisfying what I think is more satisfying is buying a Ruger 10/22 a Green mountain barrel and a $200 scope and doing just as good that satisfying

I partially agree and partially disagree. Seen lots of great 10/22's and owned several. Ive seen them shoot outstanding groups at 50 but when you start pushing out to the further stuff the bolt actions usually seperate themselves quickly. Appreciate ya watching and commenting

@@PursuitofAccuracy I guess I should have said it a little bit differently what I mean and what I meant was if everything goes right and you have one of them days where everything is perfect your gun your ammo a Ruger 10/22 can do real good at 50 yards but it definitely not as consistent so you're right and you're very good at what you do I love your attitude I like watching everything about you you're one of the best

Well, you got some decent groups, but as a KYL shooter, one flyer in a five shot string will get you a participation trophy. I like Eley ammo but it produces an unacceptable number of fliers with even the high-priced stuff. Like another commenter I’d say what you’ve shot is equivalent to SK Standard Plus.
