For me, I never cared about what kind of guitar strings I used...
As long as the strings were affordable, durable and of quality, I could care less about the Brand Name..
But recently, I decided to try out these D'Addario NYXL strings........
I have to say that these NYXLs are HANDS DOWN the greatest electric guitar strings I've used personally....
And I will tell you why...
__
Strings on MY Electric Guitars:
- D'Addario NYXL Strings (my favorite) = amzn.to/34NlWWm
- Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (my 2nd favorite) = amzn.to/2GC2nZn
- Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom (on my punk/rock guitars) = amzn.to/3lyOeei
Strings on MY Acoustic Guitars:
- Elixir 80/20s (my all time favorite) = amzn.to/3nClz9M
- Ernie Ball Earthwoods (most well rounded) = amzn.to/3iLForx
- D'Addario Phosphor Bronze (best bang for your buck) = amzn.to/3jJqZxv

D'Addario is the only string company that has complete control over the whole manufacturing process. In short, they do everything in-house, from wire drawing to plating, assembling and packaging. Even their competitors buy the wire from them lol

I started using D'Addario after i bought an E string from them at my local music shop once, back in the day i used to buy Ernie Slinkies and broke the high E after around 3 months of use, it just snapped after that. Then one day on my music shop they sold me a random D'Addario, and i don't even think they were the NYXL's, the story goes, that E string lasted for twice or thrice as much as Ernies lasted on me, almost a year, and never snapped (Until i took it off, got bent and put it on again, several months later) D'Addario remains the only E string i haven't broke... I got an NYXL set on my electric guitar, it's been on there since September and the trebles sound like straight outta the box, still aren't rust or anything, the bass strings might have lost their brightness a little bit but still feel like new... Definitely the best strings for electric (Also for acoustic, classical in their carbon line specially, and orchestral cause of the bang for the buck quality ratio they offer, i got a rosin from them that outperforms european handmade ones, and i know their cello strings sound as good as also european handmade strings, and pretty much all their products have excellent durability and quality) out there... I guess these NYXL strings will last me around a year...

Ernie balls are cheap but pretty good. But the daddarios are a different level imo

Couple of things. First off the high E is prone to snap in general, it's the smallest and weakest string. The second thing is that first part is being amplified by using fairly light strings. It's just the nature of the beast with running 9's or 10's there. I've gone through a lot of Ernie Ball strings over the years since switching to them and haven't had any particular issue with string breakage or wear. I don't use the regular (green pack) any more and switched to the "skinny top heavy bottom" sets, but on those the unwound strings are all the same as the regulars but the wound strings are 30, 42 and 52. All that being said strings are like most things with guitar, it's a matter of personal preference.

I just bought the NYXL 9-46 for the first time today, finished stringing it up like 5 minutes ago. I totally agree with you, these are by far the nicest sounding strings. I love ❤️ em, never again will I ever change back. I heard Richard Fortus swear by them a while back and he is a Guitar Tone Super Nerd. Thanks Richard 🤙 Rock & Roll 🤘 Update: NYXL 11-56 👌❤️

The NYXLs are particularly great with high output pickups (non EMGs though) that roll off the highs because they add high end. Not to say that they don't work with my lower output Lollar Imperials which have a lot of high end already. But the extra high end provides extra clarity and a boost to pickups that often don't have a lot to begin with.

DAddarios are based from New York, you guessed it right lol. 25 string sets will last you easily a year. Maybe longer if you don’t gig regularly. Thanks for the video, I think I’ll try these out for my next strings
@LunaticTheCat

Probably longer than a year, especially if you wipe down your strings with a wet rag everytime after you play (make sure to dry them off though lol). It's something that takes less than a minute and can save you a lot of money in the long run. The way I think about it is, cleaning my strings = more money for pedals.

To me the NYXL 10/46 are the best guitar strings i ever played!!!they suit my tone and feel…they are fantastic!!!Awesome tuning and yes they can last more than a month with fresh quality!!! And I can’t compare with the regular D’addario…nope…they are very different in a lot of aspects,not only money…it’s not the same…it’s night and day…

I've been using NYXL strings for like a year now. I was looking for strings on ebay or something and randomly came across them and was BLOWN AWAY. I've always had naturally dry hands.....especially where around my nails. I'd always go to bend them and eventually my nail would rip and split from my finger when I felt real into my bends. Then I wouldn't be able to play for like a week. So I tried lighter weight strings and yes it helped some, but I'd always looks the bright tone with them that I feel is a must for those tasty bends. Not to mention Harmonics sound WAYYYYyyy better on heavier strings. I tried 9-46 NYXL string and they were perfect. They kept that great tone normal sized non wound strings do when you bend them. Plus they keep that bright warm tone for like 3 times as long as other non coated strings do. Erie Ball string are pretty good, but compared to these babies??? It's like going from your first ever standard training guitar to a guitar you chose and picked out after doing tones of research. As for me, I have an Epiphone Matt Heafy Les Paul Custom. The strings are a perfect fit and feel for Ebony fingerboards.

Was able to get this 25 pack (9-42) for $125, meaning each set of strings is $5, which is less than what the affordable EB slinkys are going for nowadays ($7). Never really cared for strings but I have noticed recently how quickly my go to Super Slinkys become “dead”, so can’t wait to try these higher quality strings.

I agree that D’Addarios are better than Ernie’s, mostly for the brighter tone. That being said, I never get the NYXLs. I’d rather just get the regular $5 pack and change them more often. Nothing beats the sound of new strings. I also agree that 10s are better than 9s (for most people). I started out with 9s and the high e ALWAYS snaps during tuning. Pro tip: don’t buy balanced tension strings. I tried them and they are wack bro. Anyways, Great video!

NYXLs have a stiffer wire. This gives you a slight reduction in mids and increase in high end but can also make them play like strings a gauge thicker. I don't notice a difference on two of my guitars but I put a set of 10s on my Fender strat and they felt like 11s, maybe even closer to 12s. I ended up putting 9s on the strat and they feel like they're near 10s but other 9s feel too thin on that guitar. There are basically three electric strings I will buy. First there's D'Addario NYXLs. Second is the DR Veritas which are coated on the inside of the wrap and play and sound basically like pure nickel strings (I never use the coated unwrapped strings). They hold up about as well as NYXLs too but are cheaper and sound like pure nickel strings. Third, is pure nickel strings. I think I like the tone of the latter two better, but I like the balanced tension option from D'Addario on some of my guitars (my Fender strat needs the higher tension G for whatever reason)
@shred5
@shred5 Жыл бұрын
@@awgilliam The reason the NYXLs feel stiffer is they use a harder metal but it also doesn't deteriorate as fast as your typical stainless steel core either. But it's weird how they feel so drastically different on my Fender strat but I couldn't tell any difference on my Les Paul or my Charvel strat in feel.

Two very different manufacturing processes. I have some Elixir acoustic 10s on a six string I use a lot, and they're fine, very playable, but the point of the NYXLs is a truly improved uncoated string. Coating a string has one sole purpose, durability. What D'Addario claims is, these are better strings in all respects, tone, feel, how long they stay bright, and durability. Elixir doesn't makes these claims, other than durability, afaik.
