D´Addario NYXL bass strings review - the better roundwounds?

Let´s find out what the D´Addario NYXL bass strings have to offer. They cost significantally more, but what about the sound & feel?
The bass has been plugged directly into the sound interface (Behringer UMC-404HD). A bit of EQ & compression has been added in Cubase.

Totally agree with your review, I have these on an MIJ Fender Jazz and they’re great, I really like how they sound when they’re dead too. These and HiBeams are my favourite strings for jazz basses.

Go for it! I love stalls stainless steels as well. But these strings sound and feel really good!

Agree with your review. The NYXL’s sound more naturally balanced in a very pleasing, professional way. Tone is outstanding. By the way, your bass itself has a beautiful sound. Well done.

Mate, great video. To the point, great A/B. I have a set of 50-105 XL's on my Sandberg VM4 which I love, just wish they were a bit "sweeter" sounding with a little less stiffness, these might be the go. Love from Australia.

I don't like the sound and feel of fresh strings neither. But the NYXL reach there sweet spot pretty quickly (for my taste). Thx a lot for watching and commenting, and greetings to beautiful Australia.

Sehr guter Test! Ich habe lange auch die XL gespielt, bin dann aber über die sehr empfehlenswerten „balanced tension“ zu Galli strings (RSB) gekommen: absoluter Hammer! Fühlen sich ähnlich an, haben aber weniger von den penetranten Höhen und unglaublich Druck. Dazu noch fairer Preis (wenngleich etwas schwierig zu bekommen). Absolute Empfehlung!

Sehr interessant. Die werde ich wohl mal testen müssen. Das Spielgefühl finde ich tatsächlich am überzeugendsten bei den NYXL. Soundmäßig liegen sie ja doch sehr dicht an den XL. Vielen Dank für's Gucken und Kommentieren! Bleib gesund! 🙏🏻😀

@@MichaelSchmittEleven Gerne! Galli bietet übrigens auch etwas beschichtetes in der Richtung an. Die habe ich aber noch nicht probiert…. Bleib Du auch gesund und weiter so gute Videos bitte ;)

Hmmm. Ok, beschichtet ist aber eher nicht so meins, denke ich. Zumindest die Elixier Saiten sind nichts für mich. Aber Galli muss ich wirklich mal ausprobieren. 33,- für einen 4-saitigen Satz ist nämlich schon ein Wort.

Hi Michael, first of all great review! Would you say the may fit a heavy handed person in regard of the tension? I like low tension strings but i have Elephant hands and prefer something with a little more tension

Absolutely! I wouldn't say they are very low tension. But in direct comparison, the normal nickel wound D'Addarios feel a tiny bit stiffer. The NYXL react super dynamic to different plucking techniques and forces. I really enjoy them!

Danke für diesen Test. Ich bin noch auf der Suche nach den optimalen Saiten für meinen Marcus Miller (Sire) V7. Momentan spiele ich Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys, die mir aber zu rauh sind. Ich bestelle mir die NYXL und freue mich auf das Ergebnis.

Berichte mal wie Du sie findest. Ich verwende sie seit dem Testvideo auf dem Sire V7. Bin immer wieder begeistert wenn ich einen frischen Satz aufziehe. Sie "schmatzen" auch herrlich wenn man etwas fester reinlangt. Wirklich tolle Saiten! 😀

Sehr gut gemachter Vergleich. Mit Plek gefällt es mir sehr gut 👍Egal welche Saiten.

Thanks for the comparison. I've always been an XL guy, but now am thinking of trying these out. By the way, can you share your basic compression settings for this recording?

Me too, Arnel! But the NYXL feel really great under the fingers! I'm using the UA Volt 276 audio interface here, with the build in compressor on. I always add a bit of compression to the mix in Cubase.

@@arnelmendoza2408 Personally, I find the differences somewhat bigger with more dynamic plucking styles like slap or pick. But it's also pretty noticeable on the first touch. And they last pretty long! Would love to hear your thoughts on the NYXLs, once you got them installed!

I once bought a set of NYXLs and the E string went dead very quickly. Maybe a defective set. I replaced them with Thomastik Powerbass strings and never looked back.
