I have always thought Membra Jesu Christi, the whole cycle is the most beautiful piece of music Buxtehude had ever written, but the more often I listen to this fantastic opus, I need to realize that this is the peak of this extraordinarily great composer's works. Unputdownable. Marvelous. The song of songs, etc. Thanks for uploading.

Un oratorio peu connu qu'on peut mettre au niveau des Passions de JS Bach. J'ai eu la chance d'assister à une représentation de cet oratorio en 1972, dans la Waalse Kerk d'Amsterdam. Je m'en souviens encore !

Caroline Stam, that color is so light compared to so many sopranos. I am truly envious.

+Oceananswer Just in case: I did not mention this in an arrogant sort of way... :) but I'm sure you did not take it that way. Anyway, The fact is, when I searched the internet for a singing class in my hometown, her name popped up the screen. Me not knowing who she was, finally dared to take the chance. (wanted to start classical singing lessons for such a long time). I feel so happy and lucky, and when I hear this, I am so proud! I have never heard anything this beautiful before. She has such a distinctive, bright and clear voice. And a bonus: She is so kind!!

+Mari1986 Well be sure to tell her that a weird boy from the US loved her as Momus in Cantata 201 by Bach and that he emulates the organ playing of her conductor, Ton Koopman. Hopefully she can relay that to him also. Haha.

Makes one wonder if this really is Buxtehude's work... a surviving Abendmusiken... that would be amazing.

The manuscripts have survived without attribution as an incomplete set of parts... anyway this oratorio arouse emotion. Yes, I like to think it's really a Buxtehude's work, the only survivor of his legendary Abendmusiken!
