If you watch all the way through... what's the one thing I believe there's nothing more valuable than? Comment with your answer 😊
This is a 2yr old filly that has just arrived a couple of days ago to come in for training. This is her first day working with me (or anyone generally).
She has not had any groundwork or much handling previously.
As far as we know all she's had is a bit of halter training as a foal.
We have a beautiful clean slate to work with, and no undesirable training instilled in her that needs to be corrected.
I'll be showing you her progress over the coming weeks, you'll see how she transforms with the correct communication right from the beginning.
This is a typical day in my life, so I hope you enjoy it and can learn from it.

Beautiful to see where you decided to stop with her. Stopping then taught her something, that had she been made to keep working would have been lost. In that moment(s) when her thought changed from I got get outta here, to hey, I 'm ok, this is ok. That gave her relief. I think it was T. Dorrance that said, the last thing the horse did or remembers from working with you, will be the first idea they will have when you pick them up the next time.

The accumulation of age & knowledge is an education of a lifetime. Sharing that with his fellow horsemen is a blessing.

1. Create curiosity as opposed to intimidating with waving my arms in the horses face 2. Do not block the horse’s natural path to flight as opposed to tying to the wall - allow choice 3. Provide training as early as possible as foals will need to have regular care for health - don’t wait til the horse is 2 years of age 4. As opposed to yanking on a rope that has control- allow the horse to choose - yes the trainer is the lead horse - notice horses establish pecking order without a rope - this is done through intelligence 5. This is a 2 year old horse. That means it will be another 3 years before she should be ridden. No hurry. Horses that are ridden at 3 might be ridden on a minimal basis for training. Her bones are not yet solid enough structurally and riding before then will damage the spine and other injuries. 6. Horses are God’s glory and are the most beautiful and one of the most powerful creations on this planet. Respect them.

For one this is not intimidation . Good luck to you with letting your horses run over you with no discipline for 5 years and expect them to be good to ride . You going to create a spoiled disrespectful horse that thinks he is entitled to do what ever when ever . I’m sure that you can find a few people that have mainly been clinic attendants to agree with you so perhaps 🤔

@@cappelhorsetrainingandshoeing I can appreciate your thoughts and strategies. Without horses and the taming of wild horses who knows how the west would have been won. The techniques used in “breaking” horses was all that we, as people, had to begin work with horses. However, time moves forward, we as people can now recognize how to more effectively communicate with horses and understand horse behavior. With that said, it is becoming more evident that using horse psychology- a working relationship can be established without use of force. Horses will always think in terms of who is higher or the high horse. Like I mentioned, this is not established typically by brute force. Most of the time it’s done very subtly through how is smarter. Stallions will fight physically but through castration this fight is greatly decreased. My point being is that I can understand the need to take control by force because we as people didn’t know better but as I move forward in my life I am realizing effective strategies without force.
