5E sort of switched around the Wraith and Spectre - the Spectre used to be the real nasty one.

I enjoyed your examples at 5:11 timestamp to discuss combat strategy when experiencing a wraith. My current DM basically used "magic weapon" as an attractive ploy for a wraith. I like the "almost fearful action" that you described when a wraith encounters a enemy wielding magical weapons (or damaging attacks) vs a wraith. Kinda makes sense that they would avoid it at first and plot to destroy it when it feels more empowered against that enemy. Regroup (intelligently) and then conquer.

What do you think? Should you turn a Player Character into a Spectre?

@@d4Dungeon It was our best combat so far! For me and my players!

Yeah, why the hell not? That is part of the beauty of D&D, you have full creative freedom.

Very true! I agree with full creative freedom as a DM. And I like to make sure that my players have the same. If I killed a PC outright, I would make sure that the PCs would have some way to save their companion... even if it meant it being the next adventure! Thanks for the comment!

Stopping an undead army led by a Wraith would make a great level 1-4 campaign/adventure

I have fought dozens of these guys at once, luckily they are not resistant to psychic and have a pretty poor INT save so going first an dropping a synaptic static on them makes them pretty manageable, since they will miss most of their attacks. They also have a pretty poor AC so that helps.

In combat vs a wraith....do attackers have any hindrance imposed by "incorporeal movement" ? Example: Does the PC's attack against the wraithform need to have specialize conditions to hit it ? Magic weapon, only when it is in the prime material realm or some other distinction ? I'm curious as well about if a wraith can be attacked "while it is moving" from someone on the material plane.....as in an AOO or normal weapon/spell attacks.
