Twinned Dragon's Breath on the Wizard's Familiar and the Ranger's Beast Companion. Nothing freaks out the enemy like a fire breathing cat and a fire breathing hawk.

One of my favourite uses of Twinned Spell is to twin cantrips. For one Sorcery point you can hit two targets at once. Double the output for minimal cost.

@@jamessloan_tech It must only be capable of targeting a single creature RAW. It is however eligible for War Caster as that uses slightly different wording that makes your reasoning correct for that. "To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell's current level. " vs "The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature."

@@jamessloan_tech it's used on stuff that applies one hit. So for example eldritch blast can be used up to level 5 with twin. But when it hits 5th it creates two bolts by default and you can no longer twin it unfortunately.

My favourite spell to twin is undeniably Dragon's Breath. Giving that to two frontline fighters means you can do SO MUCH damage especially when upcasting, (Note, technically the effect of the spell isn't the CONE, its the "touch 1 target, allow it to produce a cone", your DM might disagree though if they're a prick.)

Sage Advice says that it's not eligible for twinning, since it affects the target you touch as well as any target within the resulting cone, but I'd agree it's definitely something you could talk to your DM and get approved 👍 it really is a nice use of the spell

@@august5923 The problem is that that Sage Advice actually goes against how a Target is defined in the PHB (pg. 204), which does allow Dragon's Breath to be twinned.

@@august5923 Then Sage Advice was stupid in that instance. The spell definitely says you touch one willing creature. Besides, those creatures still have to spend points in the action economy to produce the effect. It's not like they're Artillerist Arcanists with twin flamethrower bots walking around... Though that's a thing you can do if Arcanist is an allowed class.

@@Fulgrim_The_Phoenician No... That's stupid. You *touch one willing creature* and imbue it with power. The spell can NEVER target more than one creature under normal circumstances. If that were true you'd have to argue that things like Elemental Weapon aren't eligible because attacks from the touched weapon can spread to multiple targets. E.g. a Fighter can use AS to target 6 enemies with attacks. Those actions are independent of the spell's targeting.

Let me just say that twinned polymorph has a special place for me, that place being "gm either meant this to be potential tpk or messed up with balancing it so it is it is either cheese or tpk." And usually after twinned poly and two mammoths trampling around the encounter no one can take the situation seriously but man it is effective. And once that is done, if the problem persists why not do it again. However, as said that is reserved for special occasions so that gm doesn't have to balance around use of polymorph so haste is what I end up twinning most out of concentrations spells. And that is where this shines. Of course you can twin disintegrates and the like after having concentration up as well

@james Deer Not sure what you are after there but I don't think TPK is solution for not liking the direction of the adventure. Things like that are much better to solve by talking outside the game. But when the gm finds some "cr 3" creatures with 5th level spells from 3rd party stuff that has been balanced very differently from official material and throws multiple of those against 7th level party without thinking anyone would be in danger, that is when I think the use of twinned polymorph would be acceptable as a player...

Was a storm sorcerer with a Bard dip. Twinned healing word to get two allies back in the fight, twinned dissonant whispers for AOOs galore, twinned vicious mockery when we were getting pelted by attackers from above that were attacking with advantage. Those were all so fun and made the delay in sorcerer progression worth it. Twinned haste was a godsend. Casted it on the rogue and paladin in our party while the ranger and I stayed at range. Twinned greater invisibility worked great, too, for generating advantage for sneak attack and the ranger's sharp shooter attacks.

I have a move call Double Dragon where I twin dragon's breath on two allies. They can be of the same element or different (always liked fire and ice). Its great for clearing out minons. Also because its not a spell attack familiars or animal companions can use it. Your hawk familar can literally rain fire from above while your barbarian is eating thunder and crapping lighting.

I love this one too. If you get the opportunity, you should try convincing a couple of kobolds that you're really a dragon in disguise, convince them to follow you, and use them for this. Be funny as hell to see the normally timid kobolds emboldened by your "gift of dragon's breath" and chasing down all the minions.

Dragon's breath can affect more than one creature with the exhalation. It therefore can't be twinned.

@@Fulgrim_The_Phoenician The target is who you touch granting the ability. Not the ones effected by the exhalation. Look at the animated spellbook for more clarification and more ways to abuse the spell.

I've started homebrewing variants of popular spells to make them eligible for twinning. My favorite so far is an offshoot of Magic Missile that I wrote as being created by an Orcish wizard. Instead of multiple darts, it's just one big dart that combines their damage into 1d12+3.

Nice video - - many Players and some DMs get stuck with the mechanics of the "twin" metamagic option. Usually with sorcerer, i prefer to use "twin" for non-concentration spells, UNLESS i feel confident that or sure i will maintain concentration for the duration that will be useful for the situation at hand. Sometimes, the effect needs just 1 or 2 turns, and anything longer is bonus. This issue is less of a concern with high CON and other supporting features for maintaining concentration.

My dm won’t let me cast twinned spell on the same target. He quotes “second creature” from the Phb. So when we see one big bad, I just use empowered spell. It sucks.

You can twin these spells. The main benefit of twinned spells is the fact that you can twin concentration spells.

My favorite spell to twin with my divine soul sorcerer is warding bond. My party's monk and ranger become twice as hardy, and I can just pump heals into myself while staying in the back when the aggregate damage gets too severe.

I’m playing a sorlock and thought I was being really unique and then IMMEDIATELY fell into to quicken EB out of darkness combo….. I did take transmute as my second meta ability tho. As turning it to fire damage for flames of phlegethos. May have to get Twin as my next meta tho as 2 fire balls are better than 1 fire ball

Divine Soul. Guiding Bolt 1st lvl and 1st lvl Healling word are so useful even in to T3 to pick up 2 unconscious allies or getting 2 enemies some decent damage 4d6 at 1st lvl and next attack on both will have advantage. Send the barbarian at one and the paladin at the other.

I wonder can you twin things like scorching ray or magic missile because each bolt is separate so does that get around the “Can’t already be able to target more than one target.” Restriction? Cause you have to make a separate attack roll for each one

The errata text explicitly omits those two spells. "To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell’s current level. For example, magic missile and scorching ray aren’t eligible, but ray of frost and chromatic orb are."

Twinning essentially adds a second full casting of the spell, so yes, the second target would get the lingering damage.

Its not for everyone but I have made a really potent melee fighter by twinning Booming Blade. For 1 sorcery point and a 1 level dip in fighter you can consistently hit 2 enemies with a greatsword, lock them in place, and do leveled damage to both of them. All this and you are still nearly a full caster.

You could skip the fighter dip if you went githyanki, and just be a full caster, running around in medium armor and swinging a great sword 💪🏾

Can I cast Shadow Blade, then Twin Spell Booming Blade in a single target (whith the intention to attack twice)? I want to make a Draconic Sorcerer with this and play like a melee caster

Technically, twin spell requires a second target. "Twinned Spell: When you cast a spell that targets only one creature and doesn’t have a range of self, you can spend a number of sorcery points equal to the spell’s level to target a second creature in range with the same spell (1 sorcery point if the spell is a cantrip)." So I'm afraid you'd have to be in melee range with two creatures to twin booming blade. Also, I'm not sure why you'd want to twin booming blade ... imo it's not a very good cantrip unless you pull some shenanigans that let you move after attacking without triggering opportunity attacks (there are a few ways). Half the damage comes from the creature willingly moving after the hit. Which mostly acts as incentive for it to stand still and pound you.

@@lucaspinto8990 Your combo is very much worth doing. You're doubling the damage from two spells at the expense of one sorc point. Even if they don't move you've just dealt an extra 2 to 5 d8 of damage.

@@TheCM Misty step is one way to do it, sure, although it's not reliable for a melee build relying on a spammable cantrip. You want something you can use more than 4 times a day for that. For a blaster caster, yes, I can see that strategy working. But for a melee build you'd want something else, like the mobile feat. And in the blaster-caster scenario, I think I'd rather Misty Step first, then hit them with my best ranged cantrip and use my movement to run away.

I don't ever hear people talking about it but I love using hex twinned with magic missile, counting each as separate instances of damage. You have to start on two creatures (think a weak minion and the boss) but breifly playing it in adventures league at low levels feels so clean and powerful.

Hex requires an attack roll to proc. Magic missile has no attack roll so it doesn't trigger hex.

@@necroinsanity2639 yes its technically anything thats considered an attack but that is usually things that requires an attack roll. So scorching ray gets it but magic missile and fireball do not because they are not attacks

Twinning Banishment is really bad once you get 5th level slot. It can already be upcast to do the same thing, without costing your sorcery points. Spending 4 sorc points to twin a 4th level slot is like spending another 4th level slot and a bonus action to convert the points. Two 4th level vs one 5th level.

Minor Illusion doesn't target a creature, which is a condition of Twinned Spell, so unfortunately no. Since Minor Illusion doesn't require concentration you could do that with Quickened Spell.

Twin spell is really over powered if you know what you are doing with it.

It isn't over powered, almost all the spells that can be twinned can be upcasted to target two or more creatures. All it is doing is making the upcast cheaper. If my memory serves (sans divine soul) there is only two non direct damaging spells that are not cantrips you can twin. At the end of the day it is a resource that you have to spend to get the benefit from at the expense/trade off of other abilities from other classes taht you do not get.

I'm playing a divine soul who had to function as something of a tank for one encounter because the monk and ranger got absolutely fucked up, and our frontline fighters hadn't shown up yet. Twinned enervation + warcaster and some really good con meant I healed faster than they could do damage to me, and then I'm quickening spells to pump out a terrifying amount of damage or using healing word to keep the other two alive. It also helped that these things primarily did poison damage, and that character is a Yuan Ti. Their attacks tickled.

my current character is a death cleric/dive sorcerer and tend to twin chill touch so 1 cantrip and 1 SP = 4x chill touch , it's only level 3 but for the level it's not bad

If the cantrip can target multiple targets it's ineligible for Twinned Spell. If your DM is allowing it that's cool. Just wanted to let others know that it doesn't work RAW.

@@Oniphire chill touch only targets one person, the death cleric's 'reaper' ability lets you target someone within 5 feet of them too, using twinned spell, you then target the second one with the cast and use the ability on the first one so RAW is legit

@@zeriul09 So it's RAW not legit at all? You just laid out the reason it isn't, if a spell is capable of targeting more than one creature at the level you cast it it isn't eligible. The class feature makes it capable of targeting a second creature, so RAW the class feature would prevent you from ever Twinning it rather than making it better to Twin

@@neoman4426 how are you not following? chill touch can only target one thing so 'target A' the reaper class feature lets me basically copy it's effect so i can use it on 'Target B' twinned magic lets me cast it again but this time it's cast on 'Target B' and reaper lets me use it's effect on 'Target A' it's not hard to understand

@@zeriul09 Reaper allowing you to have a Target B makes it ineligible for Twinned Spell completely. Twinned spell says "To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell's current level.". Reaper says "When you cast a necromancy cantrip that normally targets only one creature, the spell can instead target two creatures within range and within 5 feet of each other. ". disintegrate, finger of death, power word: kill, clone, and you can technically twin spell wish depending on what you're doing with it. Those are the *best* spells to twin. the rest are basically just gimmicks and parlor tricks.

Nah, to me twin spell shines with the Divine Soul sorcerer and Inflict Wounds. That same subclass can also do a Guiding Bolt 1-2 punch, with a lingering advantage kicker. If you throw out the rule for "only one spell slot can be cast in a turn," combine with quicken spell for a Guiding Bolt triple homing strike. The question I've always had is: twin spell requires a number of sorcerery points equal to the spell level. Does that mean that an up-cast spell still requires the original cost, or does that go up? I've always ruled it's the level of the spell, not the spell slot that determines the SP cost. Additionally, does anyone else use the alternative MP system from the DMG for sorcerers? My players were itching for some differentiation in the casters, so that was one of the tools I dished out.

If you cast Guiding Bolt at 5th level, it's a 5th level spell. So when you twin a 5th level Guiding Bolt, you need to spend 5 Sorc Points for that. And I've used the Spell Points system you refer to. I honestly like the spell slot system better.

@@MaguMagus Nah, you have to have rules, otherwise it's total anarchy at the table. The rule for casting spells that use a spell slot never made sense to me or my players; bonus actions are separate and distinct from actions, you should be able to fire off spells accordingly.

@@calunsagrenejr Do we have a reference for the up-cast spell level/slot size linkage? I'd like to nail that one down. We went for the spell points for the Sorcerer to make them distinct and because Sorcery Points just fold into the pool _so_ perfectly.

No, Holy weapon targets the weapon. Twinned Spell works on spells that target one creature

Which bolt is utter trash. The fact that your suggesting using subsequent rounds to do 1d12 at 17th level while tying up your concentration and burning through your sorcery points to quicken spells because you're wasting your round

@@Oniphire exactly. There's sooooo many flaws with witch bolt. I'd rather spam cantrips any day of the week. I get flavor wise, it's a cool spell. But it's got to be one of the, if not the, worst damage spell in the game because of all of the conditions.

I made my Sorcerer about Twinned Spell Hold Person. Then I realized that if ONE of them succeeds a saving throw, both get out. My disappointment was unmeasurable and my day was ruined... On the next level up I have to switch hold person to suggestion, at least that can be twinned with only initial double saving throw, not every round.

If inflict wounds is a leveled spell you cant can't cast another levelled spell with your main action once you used a bonus action... But if you take two levels of fighters you can get action surge and still pull that off

I think you should consider using actual commercial face masks. Doesn't look as cool but we would understand you much better. (The Bandanas give this a cool S&M 'bound and gagged' sound but i don't think that's the sort of roleplay this show is about)

Lets just say a mini version of the conjure pixies/polymorph everyone into t-rexes tactic is STUPIDLY effective. If you have two sorcerers in your party, one can upcast or twin Fly and the other twin Polymorph for appropriate insanity.

Twinning requires sorcery points. Upcasting requires higher level spell slots. They're two different resources and you might be out of higher level spell slots but still have 4 SPs so it's fine to suggest it.
