I don’t believe I’ve ever used a Shambling Mound as a DM before but I really like the concept you came up with! Who doesn’t love a dirty murder mystery, right?

Shambling mounds are the angry remains of that houseplant you forgot to water for months and eventually threw out because you felt bad looking at it everyday.

I used a shambling mound in my 3.5 game. It was attacking a Minotaur. The Minotaur was yelling for help. The party heard him and the paladin detected for evil. Since there was no evil the party attacked the mound and convinced it to look elsewhere for food. Then the Minotaur helped the party with vital information.

I love that!! It’s great that they just scared it off too. And I’m probably remembering wrong, but weren’t Minotaurs in 3.5 weird? I might be thinking of something else, it’s been 11 years apparently since I play 3.5…😅

This sounds like a good setup to a bigger adventure where you deal with evil Druids. Maybe a starter for a higher level version of Sunless Citadel?
