Ever notice how the liches never know clone. Just imagine, you finally defeat the lich as he is slowly turning to dust. You grab his soul in a box and destroy it as he releases a loud death cry. And in town you meet this young wizard who needs to get to this ruin. You walk. Fight some undead, then when you get there. 20 demiplanes full of heavily armor skeletons come out as this wizards just walks right past. Sits on the throne in the center of the ruins then says "checkmate". then you cry as this God king steps on your face.

I'm running a homebrew campaign right now, with the main antagonist ao far being a balor trying to destroy an underground kobold city to make room for a demon base in the material plane, who also made deals with mind flayers, duergar, drow, and orcs. Got inspiration from the balrog scene in Lord of the Rings in the end of one of my sessions and changed some stuff in it (no one got fire whipped of course). Idk why, but I thought the elephant one had some potential. I mean, imagine if it had ice magic, and _that’s_ how it escaped. And the separate trails? Going back to a location following your first set of footprints is a legitimate strategy, if the elephant could cast magic then it seems logical to assume it could do that. I do think the story could use some more combat, and just having it come back without even escorting it is kinda missed potential. Still, she’s doing good considering her first game was memes.

I remember using my thaughmaturgy one time to melt some chunks of magical ice. If I hadn't been a tiefling, then no one would have been able to melt it. That magical ice idea is great. Yeah, it's ok to get inspiration from picture books, but you shouldn't just copy it essentially.

This reminds me my first D&D adventure that I DMed. Story Time: The party consisting of a Fighter (Bob), a Rogue (Jeff), and a Wizard (Wizard Insane, or WI) The three players, all lvl 1, strode into town. The guards stopped them and asked their names and business. *What the DM wanted them to do: Roll charisma to make the guards let them in* What they actually did: Bob stated his name and business but Jeff and WI refused to do so. Because of this, the guard shot them. They dodged the arrows and murdered the guards. Word got around quickly and soon the king/mayor/ruler of the town's army was out and fighting. There was a long open stretch from the gates the players had breached to the open doors of the kings castle. Troops poured out in a line and got ready to attack. *DM is now frantically scrambling to create stats and a plan for how this will go* Jeff decided it would a great idea to take his clothes off and defecate on the ground. As the troops line up, Jeff asks Bob for some oil and Bob says no. They have a petty squabble that ended in both of them getting oil spawned in by the DM. Jeff lights his poop on fire and dips his arrows in it, shooting flaming poo arrows for extra damage. WI eventually casts ray of frost, causing several waves of troops to slip and fall. Eventually the group is challenged to a duel by the king and his knight. Jeff, Bob, and WI line up to fight KI and KN They had an extended duel where they killed the king first, lit several sections of the area on fire and just as they were all about to burn, WI throws a stone knife (trinket) he had for 1d4 damage and it killed the knight. With the power of flaming poo arrows and improvised knives, the three terrorists accidentally destroyed the town. (keep in mind we were all like 9 or 10 when we did this so it was the funniest thing in the world to us.) How I thought this was going to go: Party walks into town to get geared up for adventure. They buys some stuff and walk out, and then go fight some orcs/goblins or something in the forest. Typical pulp fantasy. (reality: HAHAHA NOPE)

Does she play in your games as a player? Learning by observing is key. Also, the "build a staircase out of ice in the desert" thing sounds like she was being clever. Of course that means it would be inobvious how it escaped! The ice melted, you see! Not even every adult thinks through their clever plans from the beginning once they have that "aha" moment. Have you considered trying to help her design a one-shot? Sit down with her, spend time going over her ideas, asking her questions about why things are as they are, and helping her learn the mechanics?

@@JamiesiPyro Okay, so the book was being clever. My point was more that stopping to think where the ice CAME from in sufficient quantity to build a staircase is probably not something that a children's book - or a DM who stopped with "ooh, that's clever" - is not necessarily something to be surprised didn't happen.

The ice stairs are actually genius! If you would have taken a little longer to find it, it would have melted completely and you'd have no idea what happened!

Even weird little stories like these certainly spark ideas for me; now I just need the confidence to actually look into GMing. For example, the elephant one shot was cute, but my first thought for if I were running a similar premise: the party finds the elephant, only to discover that he had been turned into a Loxodon. Awakened by the transformation too: might be willing to return to the palace, but not as a pet.

I totally support the use of a Fullmetal Alchemist plotline for D&D, they’re probably my two biggest obsessions. But Cornello?! Of all the things, Cornello?!

“Better sense of game balance.” “Doesn’t use the phb.” “Roll a d6 (for an acrobatics skill check) and if you roll 3 or less you just die.” “TPK dragon that hits the whole party” “Why do you keep replacing it’s rolls! Do you want this to take longer?” Game balance. Yup.

Actually, I find her inspiring. I've played on and off for decades but always felt absolutely intimidated by the DM's Ive had to ever consider trying for the usual fear of failure. That she could design a workable, albeit utterly unorthodox, quest to while away some time just having fun, is confidence building for me. Thanks for sharing....loved the wolf howls from that other video...too cute!!!

I started as a DM. I was 10-11. People thought I was pretty good (all my male cousins played; they are all at least 2 years older than me). I remember there was a spider-king as the bad-guy, and that they had to improvise all their equipment because they began as prisoners or something. They were definitely inside a dungeon of some sort, for the whole thing and their goal was to *exit* it, only now I can see how innovative that was... It ended with them seeing the sky above.
