Lawrence spoke much of miners liking their gardens and flowers. I was a miner for 18 years or so and i think the liking of nature and flowers is the counterpoint of life underground that seemed devoid of colour except harsh black and grey. Speaking of myself, vibrant colour was uplifting for me, and the warmth of a natural sun on my face.

What an excellent documentary on Lawrence. The language is simplified and understandable. Thank you for making this. ❤️

Thomas Hardy, D. H. Lawrence, Charles Dickens, splendid writers and so prolific. That is for the men writers. Lawrence certainly explored the human potential of the psyche in a new and mystic way quite unique, through his short but adventurous life.

I started reading his stories 2 months ago. He describes natural scenes with rural peoples characters very well.. My greatest impression : his sopisticated skills to describe love/hatred/poorness simply by people conversations. This style leave readers great room for imagination after reading...

I first read -- or rather devoured -- Lawrence's work many years ago -- and it never fails to excite and move me -- and this amazing documentary does Lawrence proud.

I've never been a fan of his writing, but still have an interest in his life. If ever place made a writer what he is, it was his birthplace.

His English is still very modern! One thing I love about DL Lawrence!

Whatever his old townsmen thought of D.H.Lswrence, besides Byron who didn't have the sympathies of women he wrote of, Lawrence was the first writer to delve into a woman's psyche, with sympathy. (He shld have changed the names tho lol).

This is the only documentary I was looking forward to commercials, I love the Author . And read everything was published.

the written word conveys so much more and can paint a picture much more vivid than life it self D H Lawrence is 8k resolution pimples and all, a real marvel he puts you right inside his picture in poetic detail you fall in between and into his depth and into the cracks of his blunt intellect and of the bare faced censorship of imagination of his time and of today. is history never learnt and is it destined to repeat itself.(a thought) I am a giant ignoramus to have never read his word. though i had heard his name for some time and thought i'd have a try at him so i downloaded his complete works to my kindle with other authors of note Tolstoy and such.. just for a laugh i'm bit of a butterfly so i've got a few books open and all at various stages of being read and so i open the Kangaroo was tempted to go for lady Chatterley's lover off the off but held back.. thought, leave the porn for later?. Try his The Kangaroo first, and what an eye opener, it's so damn deep and magnificent it makes you cry he put's you in through his eye and insight and of mind so completely, no wonder he was hated and banned he's really scary he should be a compulsory read just to open ones imagination just a little. And an easy read as well.

Really sounds like ppl do not give him the credit he's long overdue. Never read his work, but still think he's a good guy. Obviously not condoning having an affair with someone, but no one does. Still, deserves more positive recognition.

I grew up in Awsworth next to Eastwood and used to play around the fields there around Cossall where rainbow cottage is. Dad was a miner (of sorts) went through the strikes and the Thatcher regime. I can say that Lawrence was a rare breed.

i dislike james joyce and d h lawrence ... either they were wasted on me or i was wasted on them....i certainly would not have voluntarily bought their books except they were required reading in class...........they both left me suspicious of english literature college courses and i often wondered later who decides what good literature is and why is their opinion always banging around in the echo chamber................i discovered that so many highly rated academic study novels were more or less obscure rants with only a scant connection to ordinary reality sort of literature versions of picasso's nude descending a staircase .... best appreciated by those who use a lot of marijuana

He wanted to " start his own tribe " so he could be their king, I suppose. Robert Louis Stevenson wound up doing that, didn't he ? What is it with these authors that feel they are worthy to be worshipped by these natives ? Must be an ego trip of some sort. They wouldn't get that back home, so they use the people they feel superior to, in order to be admired and respected in the way that boosts their self esteem. Kind of like living in a dream. So far I've listened to several biographies of authors on this channel and so far they have all been lesbian or bi, homosexual, talking to the dead ( supposedly ) but all have turned their backs on God. Up to this point, I can't say I care for any of them personally, though there are bits and pieces of their work that are good, profound even, though you wouldn't think, now knowing their private personalities, that they believed in what they wrote themselves.
