Interesting interview. It must have been maddening and confusing for the Brits to realise, despite their well-rehearsed prejudices, that they were dealing with people at least as intelligent and eloquent as themselves.

Dáithí Ó Conaill had a great mind and was the chief architect of the Éire Nua policy of the Republican Movement. It is such a tragedy that he died so young.

True in what he said that dublin never came up with constructive solutions in the six counties if anything they enforced the British presence with the manning of a British border here and their censorship policy also the intimidation of republicans by thier heavy gang in the garda special branch they played right into the British hands

Unscrupulous tactics from the interviewer here. Very few politicians would be able to withstand such hostile scrutiny, but Ó Conaill kept his composure and spoke well.

The interviewer's attempts to goad O'Connell - the usual style of interviewing IRA leaders during the 1970s - is hopeless; O'Connell simply isn't taking the bait. And note the false politeness - the repetition of "Mr O'Connell". The interviewee is having none of it.
