I am of Acadian descent from Canada. The Cajuns are our cousins. D.L. Menard's 'Back Door' sounds so much like Acadian music. All the same musical instruments are used. August 15 is the Acadian National Festival. The Cajuns are just as much a part of it.

Doris Leon "D.L." Menard (1932-2017) was a legend of Cajun Music. This rendition of his trademark two-step song is quintessential, because it shows how he passed on his music with heart and soul to the generation of grandchildren. Just look at how capable, but humble the young musicians play up to him. It is as if they felt, that even this giant would not cast his shadow on the Earth forever.

Just superb. I can't listen enough. I grew up Cajun, because mom was. Spoke French until she was 9. Grew up listening to it all, especially Aldus Roger. I had the honor of meeting DL, and so did mom. They spoke Cajun to each other for about 1/2 hour. A really, really, really class act.

Had an uncle, Milton Touchet, who died in '08 and after his wake and his Catholic mass we gathered in the cemetery of the Catholic church in Erath, La for his burial. I never experienced this before but a man sang a French song for my uncle at his casket. Didn't know the words of the song since I don't speak French but I later learned that the man who sang the French song was the one & only D. L. Menard. Obviously they both knew each other and it was a great honor for my uncle to be sang a song at his burial by the great Cajun musician D. L. Menard.

@nInAg114 sadly you are right about the ways leaving us. I remember back in the 90’s they were “teaching French” but Cajun french and Parisian french are pretty different. When they punished kids in schools for speaking it they effectively killed it off. Sad but true.
