The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad recently acquired 2 diesels from the White Pass and Yukon. Here we see the first arrival number 107 go out on the first test run outside the safety confines of the Yard.
Definitely sounds different than the steam whistles.
Shakes can work was I just happened to be driving past and heard the horn.. sorry.
Enjoy!!

I love that Nathan M5 horn, but in a more recent video it looks like it was removed and replaced with a different one. Hope they continue to use it on one of the ex-White Pass diesels.

I honestly have not gone chasing the diesels much. Time is a big factor. But they also started running 101 and not the 107, so it could be that too. The others are scheduled to arrive soon, so more to come. Thanks for watching!

It definitely sounded different. And yes, looked out of place. Guess we’d better get used to it. Although that say these will not replace the steam locos.. I hope that’s stays true!!

@@goaliegeorge I'm hoping they keep the loud ass Nathan M5 on there. It's one of the all time classic air horns, and it'll definitely make some people in town there pine for the steam engines. LOL

@@goaliegeorge aren't they built by Bombardier?
@cwhuffman01
@cwhuffman01 3 жыл бұрын
@@rdsieben There were three batches of these locomotives purchased by the WP&Y, although the third batch were never delivered to the WP&Y. 101-107 where built in 1969, followed by 108-110 in 1971. These were given the designation DL-535E by then MLW, and were based off of C series locomotives that were normally sent overseas. The third batch of DL535s were built in 1982 after Bombardier purchased MLW, except these were built with slightly different specifications and, most notably a wide cab. 111-114 were never delivered to the WP&Y initially, with 111-113 ending up at the United States Gypsum Co in California, and 114 going to the WP&Y. Many sources refer to the first two batches as DL-535Es while the third batch with the wide cab was given the designation DL-535EW to keep with other standard diesel designations. However, most people refer to the non-wide cab locomotive as simply a DL-535 and the wide cab as a DL-535E.
