Here is the layout as it stands in late December 2023. Wanted to share the progress as I continue to work. As I have been building the buildings, actual layout work has slowed some, but there’s still a lot to see..

Hi George, Thank You so much for sharing the link to your layout progress. Its taking shape in an incredible way. But its just a super commentary as you guide viewers over your layout and the future thinking. During the course of today, as we chatted on email, I will post you videos and pictures of my layout (with some embarrassment at my progress). All my landscaping materials are home made. I have also subscribed to your channel with happiness. My time 10 pm, you will see my email with my layout pictures. Once you see my trees, and if you think they are good homemade stuff, i may send you a few all the way from Sri Lanka.

It's my first time here! Yes, MoPac! Good choice! I grew up with MoPac and Southern Pacific and piggy flats! Wanting to build a huge Port Railroad with MoPac, KCS, ATSF, & BNSF. I recently acquired a FRISCO Locomotive, so I might build a small shelf layout depicting Lyons, KS with the FRISCO on the west side of town and MoPac on the east side of town switching the salt mines, with ATSF running east and west through town! Nice layout!

Great choice. Gotta start somewhere and start small. Build up and hone your skills so you’re ready to build the empire with piggy flats. That’s my path. I now have a place I can build a layout building…. So time will tell. Thanks for watching!

Thanks. My hockey gear is hung out to dry after every game, so there is a shower curtain rod built into the layout supports to accommodate this. I got mentioned in Thomas Klimoski’s last book for it. Thanks for watching!

Thank you sir! I enjoy watching your videos as well. I like the progress you’re making. I had a few railroaders offer suggestions, and as a hobbyist, I listened. 😉. I’m having a lot of fun with this expansion.. maybe in a few years I can afford to build the building I want behind the garage.. hmmm. Thanks for watching!

George, For your Sidewalks Have you thought about using Paint Stir Sticks for the sidewalks... most places that sell paint will give them to you for Free.. I have over a hundred paint stir sticks for my sidewalks on my layout... The Paint Stir Sticks I Got for my layout came from Sherwin Williams Paint (little plug for them)... go in and ask them for the stir sticks and they will most likely give them to you Free but tell them your a model railroader and they will give them too you.... then for the paint for the sidewalks all i use is Rustoleum Primer Paint in the rattle cans Cheap and effective way to add sidewalks on a layout
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
Those may be a little thick for what I’m using. The roads are made with lightweight wall spackling and laid on the layout with Woodland Scenics paving tape. Spread in between tape lines, then sand smooth. Making sidewalks that way is easy and done in a few minutes. Then score the lines (I still need to do on the Whataburger building foundation.). But I like the idea and glad it works for you.. nice thinking!!

Nice to see someone else thinks using Caboose Industries switch throws is okay. Also, We Honest makes some pretty good signals at great prices.
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
The Caboose throws are fine. And in this world, there is no CTC, so the switch men have to get out of the cab and throw their own switches. And I’ve bought stuff from them before. I was looking at their crossing gates, but I just didn’t like the look as much. Wait till I finish upgrading the NJI ones I have been working on. They look magnificent! Thanks for watching!

You are brave putting light poles that close to the edge of the layout. Mine would be broken off in two days. LOL Seriously, your layout is looking great.
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
They’re not permanent. There are plastic tubes through the foam and the base of the poles fit in, so if I need to move them, I just pull them up and put, then lay them down. Plus, they’re the Woodland Scenics poles, so there is some give to them too. Thanks for the compliments. I’m enjoying the work! Thanks for watching!

What an awesome layout! You've done a nice job of what's already done! Who did you get your rolls of street from? The street lights look great too along with the sections of land you've created. What materials did you use for the elevated land? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions just curious. I'm a new subscriber of your channel thanks to Jason (The Train Freak). Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
Laurel. Streets are lightweight wall spackle by Dap (red and black label) with paint mixed in till it looks right. Then I masked and airbrushed the lines. The streetlights and yard lights are Woodland Scenics Just Plug. Land was insulation foam carved with a hot knife to shape, then covered with a plaster and sculptamold mix. (Don’t know ratio, I just dumped it in and added water). Grass is mostly static grass with a WS fine foam laid under. Ask away. Happy to help a fellow modeler. And Jason is alright, I guess…. 😂👍 Thanks for watching!!

Great looking layout there George, would love to “invade” with some B&O/Chessie units, lol. One thing that caught my ear was that you said “in the garage”, I’m currently moving into a new house and putting my layout in the garage and was wondering how you layout deals with being in a garage? Thanks for sharing!
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
The garage is fully insulated, so it’s not too bad. At least so far. We have not really had that mountain cold yet. But so far it’s been fine. I have a couple of small space heaters on while I’m out working. I have a gas line for a better heater, but the one that came with the house didn’t work. It so far, so good. All rail joints are soldered and every rail has a feeder. Only non-soldered joints are the ones between the modules. Removable track sections make is easy to move if needed. And honestly, this is southern Missouri, so I’m sure they’d see some Chessie units occasionally.. I want to get a GP7 or GP9 in Chessie yellow and such just for variety. But it would be far more common to have Southern units. I have only 2 SD40-2s. I’d be happy to help if yOu need assistance on design. Contact me at my SoundTraxx email, Georgeb@soundtraxx.com. It’s not a kit or scratchbuilt. I found these guys at a RPM in Texas and bought one. He delivered to me in St Louis RPM and I’m not sure I’ve seen him since. That was 3 years ago. Hi, I've got a question for you: I live in Germany and I'm planning a US modular railroad and my biggest problem is to find american passenger cars in the stores, could you give me an idea on where I can by them online in the US?
@goaliegeorge7 ай бұрын
I’d look to Spring Creek Model Trains in Nebraska, maybe Trainworld in New York, or Sqeaky’s Trains in Georgia. I’d also try Otter Valley Railroad in Canada. In Germany, the only USA model retailer I know is Modellbahnen. You can find these listings on our website, SoundTraxx.com. Under company and retailers. It’ll give number and website. Good luck in your search. Thanks for watching!
