it looks like the 660's may have been repowered with DD series 60 motors.. not the old 2strokes.

shame decent scraper jobs are so few and far between nowadays. nothing better than seeing scrapers do what they do best. go go cat iron.

A very busy field indeed ,all clued up though,no time wasted. Don't know how long D10,s will last top slot backwards. Eating that muck .

They sure get a bit crossed up from time to time, gotta be quick on the wheel to straighten her out or those 2 D10,s will just jack knife you, good team here, circuit is well balanced with returning scrapers just coming back at the right time, windrow loading and tagging up on the move.

This video is about moving dirt the way it was meant to be done!! The 2 D10 operators are very good skinners, no wasted movements or wasted time. If the 660 engines are really Detroit Diesel I would be very surprised. Parts may be scarce for the original 660 engines but Cat has modern engines with same footprint.

60 series Detriot teir3-4-and 1/4 of the cost of Cat teir engines! Seen many all over the southwestern US

I'm curious why they would have been repowered with Detroit's? They don't sound like they are Detroit powered either. Didn't these originally have d353's for power

I mostly see IH/Case or John Deere 4 track tractors pulling a towed scraper bowl. I don't see any advantage of using antique equipment such as these....

i find it interesting how these scrapers have 6 wheels compared to many 4 wheeled ones. wonder if it makes much difference.

Adam's moderately good LEGO creations They ride like a Roll compared to a 4-wheel pan. Cat has floating goosenecks but a 6-wheel is still much better!

The old 627 I operated would run the arse of the newer 627s she just had very long legs they couldn't come near her on a long haul rd.

Detroits are 2 stroke which means the piston fires every 2 revolutions

These are not 2 stokes though, they are most likely 60 series.

Mounting the mufflers on the ROPS (rollover cage) is a foolish idea. Don't cut down on noise that much.

If I was doing this job as pushers I would find that a very boring job I have not seen this done but I would not like that job.

They are Detroit Series 60. All were repowered due to California Emissions. The Federal Government picked up a lot of the cost. Couldn’t turn it down.
