I STILL love coming back to this hand.... Nothing like making the Hero Call of a lifetime to win $1,000,000 Euros!! Not to take away from the high-level poker of the situation, because the commentators were exactly right about the thought process that was going on there.... so many people have seen this one hand, but never actually watched the tournament.... if they knew how hard Isildur (Viktor Blom) had to grind to fight his way back in this tournament, they'd know how much freakin' work he was potentially throwing away if he was wrong!! Pavel had a TEN TO ONE chip lead on Isildur at the beginning of this day!! But Isildur just kept chipping away at him until he lapped him again, and by the time he was put in this position he had Pavel covered, but not by much, he would have lost the tournament if he was wrong (well, come in 2nd anyway, but you know what I mean).... I guess my rambling point is, this wasn't just a reckless call, he really had worked out that it didn't make sense, you can see him shaking his head multiple times as he's working it out, he just knew it didn't feel right, so he took that leap and won a million bucks.... not bad man!!

The most impressive thing about Isildur is that he isn't a calling station. He folds big hands regularly, which makes this call a soul read with extra bollocks. Top play, and good bluff from the other guy
@andreistanculescu6535 жыл бұрын
he called with a bluff catcher, a very WEAK bluff catcher in that regard (2nd pair no kicker). Those kind of calls win 1% of the time and they're considered HERO calls. The other 99% of the time, they lose, and they are what I name a MONKEY call. So by ELEMENTARY math, 99% of the time you are making these kind of calls, you are just a MONKEY. If u want to be a MONKEY go ahead EDIT: In this particular hand, he had the K of Hearts, which makes it a way better scenario and a way better call. But still, trying to HERO call too often is a sure recipe to lose money and to look like a 65 IQ person to my eyes

Fantastic call under pressure by Viktor. His king of hearts blocker was very key. But he definitely needed to go through all of the combos. There was no way Pavel had an ace of hearts there because he would have bet the turn. If Pavel had JT of hearts, he probably would have raised Vikor on the flop and/or he surely would have bet and/or raised on the turn. There is no way Pavel has a set. The only realistic hands I could see Pavel having with all of his check-calling is maybe T8 of hearts or J8 of hearts. But even then, wouldn't Pavel have likely shoved the turn with those hands? Just a fantastic mental analysis by an insanely great player.

Fact was it was unlikely Pavel had the Ace hearts, why would he just call the turn not raise, and Isildur1 held the K hearts. Other hands like trips or a straight or two pair (Q9) on the flop would’ve surely raised also (on flop or turn) with the flush draws possible. Pavel hands could have were lower hearts, maybe J8 or J7 etc but was an all in really the likely play for those on the river, your really betting for value. Thus you can see the logic behind the call, it’s just difficult to pull off!

@14u2ponder5 жыл бұрын
The way most modern young players like this play, it wasn't THAT difficult of a call. Plus it was a tournament call. Not real cash. There was literally no flush that the guy could have had. Frankly Phil Ivey's "nearly call" against Durrr when all he had was a pair of 6s for 3,000,000 (or whatever it was) was way more impressive, because in that hand there really wasn't a clear path to a call. I give izzy credit for a call, but it wasn't that difficult. the ivey hand: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLmhnst_nrjVm2Q.html

Well the way i look at it from Isildur1 point of view 1) Pavel has two pair or 3 of a kind, in that cased he would of raised it on the turn to protect it. 2) Pavel got an ace. 3) Pavel was chasing a flush draw got lucky as I have the king of hearts. 4) Pavel is bluffing.

He was about to instacall with pure instincts, but real pro makes it sure by thinking it throuht. Relatively quick sudden lead on the river with pot size is usually a sign of a bluff, because against isildur you might sometimes want to check the river with a flush and bet smaller to get a call or induce bluff on that board and the action throuh hand. And if its 50/50 the king of hearts blocker seals the deal. Nice hand anyways :)
