DA's Siviwe Gwarube backed to lead basic education department

DA Parliamentary Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube has become one of the 32 cabinet members under the new GNU as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Deputy CEO of the Federation of Governing Bodies in South Africa Dr Jaune van der Merwe reacts to this appointment.

She is still young and probably was brought up in the poor communities so she would know how difficult it is. Food =performance there should be food given in rural areas and with that proper structures and proper toilets. I hope this government will look after these new generations. They need proper support. All the best Minister of education

You must go home you and other millions of zimbabweans are a burden you form part of why there is lots of peoblems in our education sector and also our hospital you will go home by force soon

How are they better? Read what they have done to teachers in WC. Return Education money when we are lacking so much. Teacher learner ratio first thing needs to be addressed.

I look forward to our new education minister. Certainly a change from Angie the disaster and God forbid now Defence. ANC faction still in play. Gwarube is going to do just fine.

Have moderate expectations...Minister is responsible for policy and oversight. The provinces are the implementers and MECs account to the premiers and not the Minister.

I see her as young Angie, we have so much educational issues but she starts by focusing on teachers doing community services, that was the last point to indicate while we have so much challenges in SA education system.
