DA steps back from Gauteng government of unity

The re-elected Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi finally announced his cabinet last night. The new executive consists of the ANC, IFP, Rise Mzansi and the PA. The DA decided not to take part in the provincial government of unity following a failure to reach an agreement with the ANC.
Gauteng DA leader Solly Msimanga weighs in on the new provincial government.

The reason for existence of MK and EFF is the divided house called ANC. No guarantee they will agree on budget. Look at what is happening in Ekurhuleni with the ANC/EFF coalition. Lesufi has clearly not learnt from how the ANC lost WC to DA and how ANC lost the metros.

The calculation to determine the number of MEC positions is a simple one. According to that ANC should have gotten 5, DA 4, and FF+1

This is the worst thing the ANC could have done for Gauteng. A minority government will never work. MEC posts have been filled and therefore no more room for the DA. Can see budgets not getting past and many votes of no confidence. No future of advancement for Gauteng.

The ANC did not the DA won a outright majority. Out of 11 posts including Premier, a proportional representation would be 6 positions for ANC and 5 for DA. ANC can give one of theirs to PA and DA can one of theirs to IFP. This would be fair.

No KZN is off limits. DA is doing well there, ANC got humbled and what helped forming an agreement faster than a 2 minute noodle is the IFP was the largest party. IFP agreed that the executive must reflect the outcome of the elections- proportional representation.

You're completely mistaken. The ANC stuck to offering 3 portfolios. The DA wanted 4. Because of this deadlock, the DA decided to walk away. If you were listening to Panyaza and Mbalula yesterday, they said the offer was still on the table. A journalist informed them that the DA had issued a statement indicating their decision to walk away. Get your facts straight.
