I got a new set of brushes. They are da Vinci Casaneo brushes. These are the sketching pack. Sizes 5, 6, 8 and 10. These brushes are sythetic and should be about the same as a squirrel brush. Lets find out

The million dollar question with round brushes, "Are they really going to come back to this shape?" (point). Thanks for this review; it's great.

Well, i can answer that question for you. The answer is not always. There is a lot of flimsiness in these, and the bristles like to stay bent over. If you want them to come to a nice point, you kind of have to roll the brush on your palette just a bit. Then they will come to a pretty nice point.

I use them, too and I‘m a big fan! Best synthetic brushes I tried yet... 😊 I also like the travel set - it‘s a nice alternative to waterbrushes, which are quite stiff.

Mine hooked relatively fast, but I gave the hook a very careful trim and my casaneos still have a pretty nice point. I really like them and reach for them a lot. I have had mine for a year and am still very happy with my purchase, three rounds in size 8, 6 and 2, and a flat 1/4" Thanks for the review!

I don't know if I love them or not, but I'm still using them. Some day I like them more than others, but I'm still working with them

Greetings! I’m a first time viewer. KZfaq recommended this video and I want to say thank you for comparing the Casaneo to a true squirrel and even a true sable!!! This is what I’ve been looking for. Every other video complains about synthetic brushes dumping their load but it looks to me like they all do that! Each one of them has the little puddle but I’m also wondering if your desk is on an incline and that is encouraging the puddle? I’ve only been painting a few years and only with budget brushes like Princeton Menta faux squirrel and faux sable. I’m trying to decide if I want to get a higher end synthetic like the Da Vinci Casaneo or if the Princeton Neptune is just as good. I’m also considering getting a natural hair brush just to see what all the fuss is about. But after this review I don’t see much of a difference to warrant spending three or four times more. I’d say my style is more realism, mostly landscapes, botanicals, and animals. So what’s your thoughts? Are the Princeton Neptune and Princeton Elite as good as the Casaneo? And if no then why?

Thank you for this thorough review, I was going to purchase this but since I do mostly floral and leaves I think I need more "snap back" in my bristles. Any brush suggestions?

Yes, the bristles in these are pretty flimsy. Have you tried princeton select brushes?

I bought these from a description that didn’t use the words squirrel or mop so I wasn’t prepared for the lack of snap. They’re nice brushes, just not what i was expecting. I use them for abstract landscapes, they’re too squirrelly for my botanicals.

LOL, they are a bit squirrelly. Even more so than some of the squirrel brushes I have.

Da Vinci brushes are good, but I like the Princeton Aqua Elites more. Da Vinci does have some really nice quills that go down to 3/0 size which is cool. I love Da Vinci for quills. The Princeton Aqua Elite quill is awesome too.

Windsor & Newton series 7 kolinsky (like all of their animal hair brushes) use sustainable practices, the weasels are not injured, they gently shave hairs from the tail only and release them unharmed. This does not effect their sustainability in the wild at all.
