I have the ForeFlight app on my iPad and it’s fascinating to see all the airspace, even the Irish airfields and Irish airspace that I’m the most familiar with - having all the charts properly organised in this way is so much better, as I’m an aviation enthusiast and I used to waste loads of money printing out charts after I used to download them on older computers - I’ve always wanted to go on an aircraft like Richard’s when visiting family in Ireland from here in Manchester as I’m closer to Liverpool

@@richardtyrer I don't think your Diamond DA42 has enough fuel to get there, and you'll need many refueling stops. You might have to fly over parts of Europe, then Asia. Then, in theory, you will have to go from south east Asia over the South China Sea into Indonesia, then take a flight over the Timor Sea to land in Darwin, AU. :)

Excellent video and excellent flying. I'm a UK PPL with an IMC/IR(R). I've been following US channels such as S1K, P1D and Citation Max. Your videos work much better for me than the Americans, clear explanations, great view of the panel and of Foreflight, and enviable accuracy on flying the ILS. You have me wondering how much time and money it would take to upgrade to a multi IR on a DA42 (it's only recreation for me, my main flying interest is gliding, I have an Arcus M)
@richardtyrer
@richardtyrer 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! 😁 Once you have met the criteria for the MEP I think its only a 6 hour course. For the cost I can't remember (I did mine a while ago) but in the UK I think its around £3.5K. I'm not a glider pilot so had to Google the Arcus M, looks a pretty slick bit of kit!

Great videos Richard. Thx for posting them. I was just wandering why the FPL altitudes at your current enroute waypoint are manually inserted. As you entered the aerodrome elevation in the FPL during run-up, I was expecting all the other altitudes to be in white and advisory but still able to give you a TOD and BOD.
@richardtyrer
@richardtyrer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Toon! The en-route altitudes will automatically change with the altitude you select on the flight director. If you manually insert the en-route altitude on the FPL it would become a nightmare if you start changing cruising levels. I think that was what you were after, if not just say! 😁

@@richardtyrer I’d guess that you would have to factor in the QNH as well, as it’s only standard altimeter QNH pressure setting above 18,000 ft AMSL - airfield elevations AMSL on the local pressure settings factor in too, so is altitudes in AGL more accurate?

Just recently discovered your excellent videos, Richard. I have a PPL/Instrument and thinking about doing the multi rating in a DA42 in the US. However, as I'm based in Kuwait, wondering if it would make more sense to do it in Europe or the UK (less jet lag to worry about). Do you have a rough idea what a multi-IFR rating in a DA42 would cost in the UK? Thanks. By the way, my uncle Kenneth was a radar operator on a Lancaster in the RAF during WWII. I believe the British bombed at night using this "Magic Eye" radar whilst the Americans bombed during the day. Happy Landings, Ibrahim

Hi Martin, I have done all my training in the UK so I can't offer any real advice on that one! I already held an EASA CPL/IR so I run of a 61.75 certificate with an IFP exam.
