Very inspirational videos. Love to view your travels to my native country of Iceland. As I child and young man I dreamt about doing this kind of flying, but aircraft design and development got the better of me. Anyway, your videos bring back those memories. Thank you for sharing this experience.

Hi Richard, Gday from Australia! I started my MECIR in the DA42 on the 4th of Jan and passed my flight test in almost 40 degree heat on the 20th here in Perth! Your videos inspired me to keep pushing through 16 days of early mornings and late night study sessions. Please keep up the awesome content!

@@richardtyrerHi Richard, being proudly Irish myself, I can feel the same way when non-Irish people pronounce Irish place names in my native Irish Gaelic language, even though I can’t actually speak Irish Gaelic very well, I still try my best when I come home from the U.K., although I love to educate respected visitors to our country, as our honoured guests, which is also why I feel the need to protect them from getting ripped off in the tourist traps and to entice them to explore those parts of Ireland that are off the beaten track, to enable them to see our Irish culture at its finest - I think also that for me, coming home to Ireland is a hugely spiritual experience that I can’t quite explain, despite living 21 years in Manchester, as I feel that even at age 52, Ireland will always be my real home and I feel fortunate that I still have extended family still living near Dublin 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️

Westman islands usually are only domestic flights (ppl from other countries usually go by ship or as a passenger) he's used to speaking Icelandic on the freq, speaking English increased his workload so he was a little slower but nothing dangerous. the other airport has daily domestic flights and GA airplanes landing there so his English is a lot better. despite what you think the westman islands controller was not completely asleep and wasn't clueless about what was going on. I can see how you thought so tho if I didn't know he wasn't used to English I would've thought so aswell.

@@richardtyrer It's very cool to watch your familiarity in the planes you fly where you do the flows very efficient, without using checklists. I am trying to incorporate the use of flows myself, but can't decide whether generic flows (that is done the same each time, in each phase of flight) is the way to go for a GA-pilot like me that doesn't fly all that often. Generic could be Top to bottom, left to right or something. What is your thoughts and how do you use flows for efficient cockpit operation? :-)

Richard how come you didn’t route via the ES NDB which looked like the start of the procedure to avoid the high ground? Difficult to study the plate on your video but I didn’t see a DCT EGILL option. Although as you said the worst of the terrain was to the East.
@richardtyrer
@richardtyrer 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, it was quite busy before turning the camera's on (and I wanted to focus on the flying after!) but there is an arrival which takes you direct from BRUSI to EGILL which allows you to skip the traditional procedure. I didn't have time to really go through it on camera. If you search for the Iceland AIP and look at the procedures for BIEG, you'll find it under the VAD 1 RNAV arrival. Cheers 😁👍

Hi Richard, happy to see a new video from you. Great job as usual! I got a hold of a G1000 sim for the PC and as you said once you understand the logic of it, it's quite a capable system. I actually used the sim to copy your ILS into BIEG. One question, I noticed that you selected 5,300' on the altitude selector sometime during the approach (presumably the missed approach altitude). I didn't catch it exactly from the video, but what is the best time during the approach to dial in the missed approach altitude? Is it right after the GS captures? Thanks and safe journeys, Ibrahim.

@@richardtyrer thanks for the reply, just to clarify, there was no intention at all to call you out or anything, just for curiosity, even i dont understand the IFR system here, as i did my IFR training just shy of a skill test elsewhere, but the damn CAA exams had to run out of time just before i could finish, even did my multi training in the same trip on the 42
@richardtyrer
@richardtyrer 2 жыл бұрын
Ah no worries I didn’t take it in that way at all! To be fair there was probably a better way of doing the IFR departure but given the information I had at the time I saw that being the only way! The majority of airspace in Iceland seems to be class E, so no permissions required for VFR but IFR clearence is mandatory. Shame your exams have run out, I love VFR flying but if you want to go on long trips, you really need the IR to guarantee the flight! Best of luck with the training
