I hear ya' Daddy Cornstar. The comments you made while driving the semi, on the highway, and people passing when they shouldn't. Most of our two lane roads around my home were either built for model T's, or gravel roads that have been paved in the last 25 years. Most of them have very few passing areas, and very few long enough to pass a truck. If you need to go faster, use the 4 lane roads. We all know what time of year to help our farmers out and give them a break. I grew up in a rural town. Used to seeing farm equipment on the roads during planting and harvesting. You use the gravel roads for the most part, but there are times you need the highways. Thanks for helping to put food in our bodies, seed for the next planting season, and food for the livestock. There are several packing plants around here. I was born in Waterloo Iowa. My Dad worked at Wrath Packing, next to the Cattle Congress. I live in Warren County... not much but fields in this county 😊❤

We had 3-5 company trucks and then we brought in all the harvest contract haulers, around 100, and kept the highways between Southern Oklahoma to Caprock Texas, 25 different load and Coop points, busy just like your harvest is. And yes, I do miss that! Terrible food, looong hours, no sleep, getting called out all hours with a broke truck 200 miles away or, worse, a accident. Industrial maintenance here. If you have a frequency drive for your cross auger (which I imagine you do) you might be able to slow it down where it turns slower that the diagonal auger. So that way it can take away grain faster than it can pile up. Might be able to have Joe look at that for you. It's not right but you might not have to change belts everyday. Best of luck.

Cole, it would cost some money out front, but adding a vfd to the cross auger in the pit would solve the problem. Your controls guy can easily set up a load sensing program to monitor the amperage draw from the motor. There would be a target amperage and if that threshold was exceeded the vfd would automatically slow down until the amperage dropped below the threshold. That would prevent burning off the belts but still keep the discharge auger fully loaded. Then as the pit becomes empty the cross auger would speed back up again to quickly empty the pit.

Hey guys, what if you were to remove the pulleys on the cross auger and install sprockets with heavy duty chain. Have a small sprocket on the motor and a larger sprocket than the pulley that’s on the auger to slow down the auger speed a little. Might help since the belts can’t seem to handle the load and with the cross auger turning a little slower, might help the auger to the leg to keep up. That cross auger sounds like it’s going too fast.

The pit centering auger problem can simply be solved with a timer relay. It doesn’t need to run all the time so don’t. Put a timer on the control of the auger motor. 10 sec on and 20 sec off. Or change the pulley sizes to spin at 30% current rate. I enjoy all your content. Grew up in Melrose township. Very easy to relate.

I live in farm country by choice. Twice a year I get stuck behind slow moving equipment. Passing isn't the safest option on most of these roads either. I'll gladly just hang back behind that machine for a few extra minutes rather than risking it with the traffic on those same roads. Thankfully our ditches aren't so deep here, because I've pulled over into them more than a few times to let machines pass without taking out a mailbox or something else. I'm not a farmer, but I'll stick with living between them. The spring and summer inconveniences are worth it compared to where else i'd be living. It's not hard to figure out the day or two they will be in your way if you pay attention either. Planting and harvesting seasons delay me WAY less than the normal stuff on the highway. Plus, I like to eat regularly, so I'll give the farmers some room so we can do that.

One solution for your belt situation. Replace that one drive with a leaf chain/silent chain setup. Just make sure its perfectly aligned and tensioned. Put chain lube on it a few times a season and it’s bullet proof. Down side is there’s no slippage, unless a key shears off inside a gear.

DC from my experience as a millwright for a setup like you have in your pit you really should have hog backs ontop of your auger. It takes the weight off it but still allows full capacity of your system.

I think they have them on the arguer. To be honest it looked like a bad design for the amount of grain they want to move.

I agree ive been watching the series when they built it and I would have went with a drag too a leg with gates in the bottom of the pit to control flow. But i understand that the way they went was much cheaper and it really shows.

Daddy Cornstar, I can't believe you've been so patient this long. I have to say, I'd have gone postal psycho long ago.

DC, I share your frustrations about people passing semis and about killing themselves in the process. I live in a area with a lot of farming and constantly see people pushing semis loaded with soybeans, corn, livestock and passing them and about running themselves off of the road. I shake my head when someone risks there life to get around a slow moving semi and then that car and the semi arrive at the same red light at the same time.

Cole and family, my heart goes out to you, you invested a lot of time, money, effort and planning into the bin site, and it seems to have caused you so much grief, I cannot believe that after being so careful in choosing contractors and planning so carefully that it has become some a pain, hopefully you will find a solution and everything will work out

Oh man, how frustrating for DC! All the planning, work and hoping for a great harvest. I hope you can get it all straightened out soon. I am not sure who was cuter, Maverick or the little girl! Both are pretty adorable.
