Unusual because I will use 0,8mm by 0.1mm ribbon wire with 28ga as frame, instead of 0.3 by 0.1 mm as usual.
So I will use 3 plies of 0.8 by 0.1mm kanthal ribbon wire framed with 28ga kanthal and wrapped in 40ga Ni. It is equivalent with 8 plies of 0.3 by 0.1mm ribbon wire, framed with 28ga and wrapped in 40 ga having the same resistance, surface area and mass.
The classic framed staple coil gives you more flexibility in choosing the resistance by modifying the number of plies used but if you want to change the frame wire you have to use the appropiate ribbon wire.
The modified framed staple gives you the possibility to change the frame wire using the same ribbon wire but you do not have the same flexibility in modifying the number of plies. You have to use at least 3 plies to keep the frame in place.

I know this is an old post but I am picking back up my hobby of building coils...maybe take it to the next level this time and make some of the really hard ones. That Daedalus pro is a life saver even though I still use a drill and swivels for some coil builds, especially the staggared ones but yea I eve bought two of the Daedalus pro's and I have made many coils just like that but you made it look so much easier and your coil turned out perfect. Excellent video. Daedalus knew what they were doing when they made those inserts for sure. That second coil is nice too. I bet that first one vaped sweet, lol. And with the Daedalus you don't need a table vise to raise the swivel mount up high enough for the drill...I have a special mount somewhere around here that I am going to have to dig up but I have so many coils of wire of all kinds I can make coils for months, lmao ..... You do know you can get one of those cheap spaghetti presses from Ebay for about $35 and make any coil a flat one by running it through....I used to make all my claptons flat....I have it around here somewhere....got to dig it out too....it's a neat and easy trick to use also. People don't realize that for a lot of us, making these coils is an art form and more of a hobby than just vaping, otherwise we would just stick some premades in our rda's, hehe

Honestly to me, the deadulus and the pro version is a giant hassle. For framed builds all you need is a drill a swivel and a ribbon slider if you want. Still a great video I'm not gonna lie that's pretty cool. I just think that if you are already at this point of prep you would do much better with the drill swivel and optional bearing rotator.

Thank You! You are right, but not every vaper is willing to practice to make even a simple clapton coils or they don't have enough skill to use a drill. I did want to show that with Daedalus can be done more than simple clapton coils, with little imagination and much less skill. Now the hobby has changed and I still use coils made 2 years ago. :D

Looks great. I bought a Daedalus Pro about two years ago and I haven’t even managed to make one decent coil with it. Not even a basic Clapton with a single core. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I don’t get the “spool part” to move and my claptoning is terrible. I’ve tried with all different tensions to make it move, I’ve try to use it on slippery surface, been trying different wire gauges etc etc, but I fail every single time. Do you have any pro-tip or advice for me? Would really appreciate it bro!

I had the intention to make a video about the issues in the process of making coils with Daedalus. I didn't do it because i wasn't able to reproduce those issues even intentionally, and I have both Daedalus versions, Standard and Pro. So I think it is something wrong with spool holder or spring. Maybe a washer between spring and spool or between spool and spool holder would help.

nice, got to try that as soon as my wire arrives who would have thought that the 100" included only lasts for 5-6 coils ^^

Thanks!. I didn't tried yet but i suppose it is on par with the classic framed staple ( 8 plies of 0.3mm) and imo with a 4-5 core 28 ga fused clapton. It is the first attempt to make a coil of this type because with Daedalus v1 it is not possible.

Dim Adi Awesome. I just made a coil with the mods you made to the device. It came out fine but the wire kept snapping off, maybe I need to smooth out the edges better and less tension on the wire. :)

That's not a framed staple. In a framed staple, the ribbons have to stand up on their side, not lay flat. That's why they give so much flavor. The juice gets between all the small slots between the ribbons. That will not happen with this coil. Yes you create surface area, but the juice can't get there unless all you do is drip and not rely on the wicking. You might as well have just used some flatwire and framed it to get the same result. I got the daedalus pro and all I use from it is the swivel. All it helps with is claptoning, which is something you learn to do after a couple of tries. I've been having a lot more fun truly making my coils than taking this shortcut, which was extremely finicky by the way. In the 4 weeks I've been building coils I've successfully built multi strand fused claptons, staples, framed staples, aliens and fraliens. Just tales some practice and will give you a lot more flexibility than this tool.

IMO framed staple it's a characteristic not a unique name and my coil has both characteristics but I added "unusual" because I knew there will be comments regarding the name. I didn't mention anywhere flavour because it is very subjective intepretation. I agree that manual way gives more flexibility but my video series is about Daedalus and not manual builds.

There's always that one guy who watched some old Squid stuff and now acts like he knows it all. Sir, the coil is named framed staple due to the fact that several ribbon wires are stapled together with the use of a frame. Furthermore, there is no substantial wicking advantage since the juice will still infiltrate the ribbons from between the wraps. The main reason for upright stacking is that you can tinker arround with the resistance, like Dim Adi said. Like using 28ga frames for a faster ramp while lowering the resis with some additional ribbons to ensure the proper amperage for a mech setup, resulting in a good ramp without having to dive down to the sub 0,09 area.

@@polkhigh_33 its actually called framed staple because it looks like staples in a frame.. Iv tried both ways and agree that having them upright increases flavour over laying them flat.. It was about surface area and keeping resistance up enough to be safe
