I once asked a mystic, if he could name any Kashmiri mystic poet, who could be categorized as the best among our best poets like Shams Faqir, Nyama Saeb, Ahmad Batwari, Souch Kral, Rehman Dar, Wahab Khar, and likes of them. He paused and then said, " All of them". Now I understand what he really meant. All of them have pieces of jewels that can not be matched with other jewels. Here is one such piece by Naema Saeb. I am trying here to transliterate a few verses to show you the depth of mysticism/spirituality of the saint. Hope you like it. This link was forwarded to me by Ravi of Ravimech, a dear friend, who is doing great service to Kashmiri culture by promoting mystic poetry. These mystics have only one purpose in life that is to do away with the physical self (carnal self) and access the true self, what we call consciousness or ' ruh', or the divine element in the human being. Sir Iqbal termed this divine essence in a human being as 'Khudi' and he has devoted most of his 'kalam' to elevating this 'Khudi'. When a mystic approaches his divine self, he is said to in a state of 'Haal'. It is in this condition that he is at his best and is very creative. Then these verses come to them automatically as if somebody is dictating to them in such a state of consciousness and is termed as 'intuitive voice'. Nyama Saeb is passing through this experience (Haal) at the moment when these verses are bursting out from him: 'Dadi chani yaro paan mareoyo - laye yetamo, Yeth Dili-jigrus kastum Kha-ey - laye yetamo." He is lamenting ( Dadi chani paan mareyo) and desiring the full insight into the light of consciousness by pampering and inviting it (laye yetamo). He is also praying for cleansing of his heart which is the seat of the divine element. because it is only possible to receive divine illumination when your heart is pure and polished. Remember not to confuse your inner light with the Absolute- nur-e-Illahi. True Mystics know that it is beyond the reach of the human eye to see God (see Quran) or even be able to stand that light of Nur. Only a ray of God's Nur fell on 'Koh i- Toor' which was shattered into pieces and Musa fell by the side when he witnessed it. So don't be fooled by the false claims of false mystics. Hazrat Ayesha (prophets wife) R.A. when asked if the prophet saw Allah during 'Mairaj'; she said, how can Allah be seen, he is Nur. Mohammad saw that Nur. Unlike Hazrat Musa, he bore the brunt of Divine light and his eyes could see it but He(saw) did not reverentially exceed the limits (Read surah Najm Ayat 17 ) Then, finally when the mystic witnesses the divine light within, he tries hard to focus on it and wants to remove all the veils between his perception and the light of consciousness. He coaxes himself to pursue this true divine illumination. It is here that Nyama Saeb says; “ Gachi kuthi wuchtan atti kuss chu-ey, Yimm parde zalith trau. Nyame lartou asleki paye, Laye yetamo. Nyama saeb tells himself to look keenly into this enlightened heart ( Ghachi kuth) and follow this illumination and see who is there? When mystics get at this stage and level of consciousness, they are ecstatic, joyful and enjoy to be there. This is how I see these verses. You might better it. May Allah guide us to this inner self and His true Nur (Sirat ul Mustaqeen- Divine nur))
