Daenerys Targaryen didn't burn down Kings Landing, she lost control of her dragon Dragon. Just like we see in House of the Dragon with Aemond and Lucrerys.

Nah we all saw her face, all rage and vengeance. She definitely meant to do it. Dragons are considered intelligent and even sentient creatures so when Drogon burned the throne it was to show that he understoood that it was the fight for the throne itself that brought about the death of his mother. Jon Snow actually being a Targaryen was most likely the only thing that saved him from also suffering Drogon's wrath.

Idk about the books, but based on the show alone dany’s actions were almost always the most reckless; it was advisors that tried to check her that generally persuaded her to take the less violent option. They were all dead when she burned kings landing, so it made sense

Jep, one of my favorite scenes is where sir barriston tells her about how the mad king believed his actions where justice. Th dragons in house of the dragon acted out of animal instict. We are told many times throughout the books, GOT and HotD that the dragons are wild creatures no matter how many times the targaeryns tame them. Lucerys' dragons attacked bc he felt threatened by the much older and much larger dragon aemond had. Aemonds dragon killed lucerys and his dragon bc she is still an animal that acts on instincts. I can belive that drogon acted as harshly as he did when attacking KL because of his bond to Dany and could feel her anger and want of revenge, but daenerys lied and did not give mercy to the ppl after the bells were rung like she promised. The slaughter at KL was all on daenerys and the creators nor the fan base can just excuse her actions (and also lack of character forethought) on the dragons just bc of a later retcon

Dany was always comfortable using fire and death to get what she wanted. From the finale of season 1 to the time of the massacre she repeatedly used fire as a weapon to punish and intimidate her enemies. Always. Dany didn't snap, the bells didn't drive her crazy, the dragon didn't disobey her, she chose to kill innocent people. She was hurting, having lost her closest friends and confidants in the battle of winterfell and for KL not to mention being dumped by her nephew Jon. Indeed, agreed. The pursuit for the Iron Throne was the cause of so many deaths before Danaerys. Drogon knew the Iron Throne needed to be destroyed to truly end the madness. Jon said it himself, he never wanted to be King of the North or the Seven Kingdoms, never wanted to sit the Iron Throne. Drogon could sense that about Jon, that killing Danaerys wasn't to claim the throne for himself as Aegon Targaryen.

It really was horrible that her character went totally out of control in the last episode but that’s what was intended. She had Drogon burn Kings Landing on purpose but the reason He burns the iron throne is because that is what his “Mother” coveted her whole life and was the reason she became so blood thirsty and crazy and was the reason she had to be ultimately taken out by John Snow. So Drogon had to destroy it because he knew that’s what cost her life. 😢

I think they should have let her destroy the red keep only. It would have suited her better. But I don't think she destroyed kings landing because she had gone mad. They killed her child. They killed her best friend. Her most trusted advisor. And Missandeis last word was Dracarys. So this is what she did. Dany and Drogon have such a strong bond... I don't think they thought rationally. Drogon wasn't controllable because of Danys emotions. Caused by Cersei.

Drogon has shown multiple times as acting on Dany's feelings. There have been very few times he has reacted in anger if she wasn't feeling it as well. When Viserion is killed, both him and Rhaegal roared in what seemed like anguished rage, but neither went after the Night King. When Viserion - a smaller and zombie dragon - attacked Drogon; he fled to get Dany away safely because Dany was scared. Jon was angry and went after him, and Rhaegal didn't back down even though he was getting hurt because he was reacting to Jon's rage, not trying to protect him. Jon has shown a lot of aggression to the NK, where Dqny hasn't had many encounters. The only time Drogon had put himself before Dany was when he flew off to get rid of the wights. I think he showed anger not affected by Dany's emotions two times - when he rescued her in the fighting pit and had a bunch of spears thrown at him, and when he hit the scorpion with his tail. He came to rescue her because of her fear but got mad when he was hurt and roared in her face. Then he immediately backed down, recognizing it was mom. And he had already burned the scorpion. The kick was just a little extra f*ck off. After Dany died, I think he was so full of sorrow that he struck out and burned the iron throne, the most predominant thing in the room. I don't know if I believe he burned it as a symbol, but who knows? I think Jon was safe for 3 reasons, his Targaryen blood, Drogon knew he had been Dany's friend/lover, and it was clear to him Jon was mourning her as well I don't know that Drogon could tell Jon had killed her. Which is why his fire was directed at the throne. Jon wasn't in the way of the throne, and Dany's body wasn't either. In HotD, Aemond hated Luc. He may have commanded Vhagar not to do it, but his emotions were conflicting, plus Arrax blew fire at Vhagar. No little punk baby dragon is going to spit fire at Vhagar! She's the baddest bitch in the sky and has a reputation to uphold.... but #GoTeamBlack

Just look at how entitled she acted towards those in Essos who didn’t do who bidding when first asked…look at the carnage and brutality she unleashed on those who opposed her. She was driven mad by the killing of someone she cared for and acted 100% in line with her character. Also what happened in HotD was a quick action from the dragon but Danny did not say “oh no” or try to reel her dragon in but kept making passes…folks just over invested in aspects of her character while ignoring the warning signs that had been there from the beginning and built upon steadily over the seasons.

this actually does make sense. Since HOTD, we have seen how dragons are easily affected by their riders emotions and despite Aemond not wanting to kill Luc, Vhagar must have assumed: "my rider is making me chase them, he seems angry, I must kill". When in reality, Aemond was angry because he wanted to take Lucerys's eye. We didn't really see Daenerys give the dracarys command, because her dragons are quite properly trained in a sense that they listen to her. But then again this ending would have been better and made more sense if the writers had foreshadowed the madness taking root much earlier (probably during the time she went to Winterfell)

If you think about it a mutually charged decision to destroying King's Landing between Dany and Drogon would make sense. As for some of the early seasons, most of the protagonists of the stark story line and most of the people causing Dany pain, grief, stress, etc came from Kings Landing. A temporary lapse in judgment and a moment of pure hatred and vengeance she made a decision and she didn't regret it afterward, we should just accept the (Fictional) Queen's decision.

Saw a few theories about the Targaryens marrying the sisters/brothers/uncles/aunts/ etc. was to keep the blood of the dragon more pure thus increasing their bond and control with their dragons. Which is why Vhagar and Arrax didn’t listen to their rider because they are only half Targaryen. But this is also an inter theory!

This in the end is just a twisted form of vengeance. The people you feel bad for, getting burned alive. They were the same people that cheered to see Lord Starks execution.

🎀No it was Daenerys. Her best friend was murdered, her children (dragons) apart from one was killed, her love and nephew Jon Snow didn’t want her anymore and was the true heir to the throne. After everything she had been through, why wouldn’t she go mad? Or want some type of revenge?🎀 🎀She freed slaves, and did everything by the book for what? Only to lose so much. This is one of my favourite scenes in the show.🎀

Dany had been sacking cities since the very beginning of her arc. The only difference between sacking say Meeren and KL. Was that the audiences modern sensibilities said one was ok because of slavers.

She was literally smiling in the end when there was nothing left but ruin in kings landing and even defended her actions against Jon. Not a single emotion of regret or whatever "oh no my dragon did this" looks like. This is the farthest most stupid theory out there.

Nah y’all weren’t paying attention she set up to go crazy from season two I loved every minute of season eight I wish they would’ve extended it to maybe 10 episodes but still everything that happened was meant to happen. The only real complaint I have about that whole season is the Jon Snow didn’t fight the nights king

In my mind, she wanted to fight, kings landing surrendering wasn't enough. She came for a fucking fight, maybe went too far in pushing them into a fight she didn't realize they wouldn't.

If you watched every season of that show and didn't get so much as a whiff of danarys being power-hungry, egomaniacal, or ruthless than that's on you. People were just so in love with her that they didn't realize anything she did that bordered on crazy. This was absolutely not out of character.

I can understand the ending because she is the daughter of Areys II the mad king and those loose screw tendency’s could have been hereditary. Look and the unburmt brother viserys, he was so delusional he thought drogo would hand him the 7 kingdoms with drogo’s khalasar. Princess Daenerys mad trait kicked in when she felt something wasn’t going her way when she invaded kings landing to claim the iron throne but instead massacred an entire city.

That makes no sense. Vhagar was a big stubborn elderly dragon went after a single person. Dany brought thousands of Unsullied and Dothraki to King's Landing. She wasn't there to become friends with Cersei. As far as we know, Drogon only burnt cities when his mother told him to do so.

A Dragon's mind is as complex or more than that of a human, the bond between dragon and rider goes as far as to linking emotionally and deeply almost physically as to feel the riders pain, the problem with this is, that as humans one can feel one thing, but want another, the dragon just acts as a reflection of those emotions that are being pent up inside, in the end, we humans might be thinking many things at once when having negative emotions, but when thinking straight, we could stop ourselves or let it blow out of proportions, to then regret it or not, depending on ones mental stability. Therefore negative emotions will give the dragon the right propulsion to kill and burn everything to the ground.

Pretty sure she said Dracarys or however it’s spelled. I’d have to look it up, but she visibly wanted to see it burn and had absolutely no remorse after the fact. So I’d say this theory would be cool if we didn’t have clear evidence that she wanted to burn KL to the ground. Also, clearly the show was tying her to her father with the whole “watching the city burn” thing, mad king -> mad queen

Ok let's say, sure this was the reasoning. It's said that the connection between Daenerys and Drogon was basically telepathic, so what if, the reason 'drogon was the one who wanted to burn down KL' maybe, Drogon felt the absolute hatred that engulfed Danys heart/which is the reason she burned down KL. And acted trough that, and Dany being yk MAD at literally the world did nothing to stop it and 'gave permission' to Drogon, but that's just my theory on why this would've happened

No, i don't think so. She was angry and blinded by her rage and basically admits to it when Jon confrots her. In regard to Ahemond he got his dragon reved up and when Lucerys's dragon attacks back Vhagar responds accordingly.

This it's easily debunked when you consider that Missandei last words before she was killed right in front of Daenerys were "Dracarys", her closest advisor and one that kept her in check basically told her "burn it to the ground" as her dying wish with that Dracarys and Daenerys went rampage.

No she wanted to burn KL. Her dragon didn’t even kill Jon after Dany’s death. He burnt the throne. She went mad and even praised her troops. She would of been just as bad if not worst than her father. Instead of forming an alliance with Sansa she wanted the North for herself. They bent the knee to two kings they weren’t going to bend the knee to some woman with a dragon who really didn’t know anything about politics or the land
