Thanks Deb. I just got my VE-8 on Monday and feel overwhelmed. Keep sharing what you've learned about it and please be slow thorough and patient. Most of the tutorial videos on youtube go too fast and assume that we know a whole lot more than we do. This is my first ever multi effects pedal and I'm in my 70s. Been playing acoustic guitar since 1966. I love how you share what you know. Please keep it up.

Your vocals went quiet because as soon as you separated guitar and vocals (i.e. output mode 4) the vocal XLR becomes MIC and no longer LINE. I know the manual doesn't say this at all. :)

You have to setup the XLR output to Channel 8 or 9, then 1/4” to the one you didn’t use. This will give you two separate channels, one for 1/4” and one for XLR that you can route to 2 different sources. This would make a good video. I’ll keep you posted.

Great work with the videos. I’ve stopped by a few times since buying mine. Everything is fine when using an acoustic guitar, but I’d like to use harmonies when I play electric (without using the ‘KEY’, using ‘AUTO’). I’ve used it live with electric before without sending guitar through the VE-8. But, I want to improve the harmonies. And, I’ve noticed I can’t select AUTO if a guitar is not plugged in. Also, I ran my electric through the VE-2 into a FISHMAN acoustic amp while practicing, and that’s fine if it goes through there, but I want to be able to run a cable to my tube amp to play through that as well. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you. And happy thanksgiving

The VE-8 records to stand alone very well. I have a Boss VE-8 playlist that may interest you. I've recorded a bit using the Boss VE-8. Effects used sparingly record best. The Tascam will be able to record this very well. I use the 2 XLR outputs and set them up for separate guitar and vocal. The USB recording is OK without effects. But the stand alone should be able to capture quite a bit of the abilities of the VE-8. I love mine.

One thing I've found is it's nearly impossible to use a 12 string guitar and the Pitch correct at the same time......It will sound like the guitar is seriously out of tune.... When you turn the pitch correct off, the problem with the guitar disappears ... if your using a 12 string, You have two choices....Either sing out of tune or play out of tune.... Best advice, Learn to sing in tune... God as my witness, I have been working hard on that, lately!....:D...............and thanks for posting this... Very well done!

Last night, I plugged in my 1959 Kay archtop with the P-90 pickup.... What a nice tone I got out of the VE-8 .....

Deb, you may have addressed this already but being the Guitar and Vocals are mixed together as default going out to the PA it seems to me it would be better if they were seperate or I would like them that way, but would that interfere with the vocal harmonizer? @Rvingminstrel
@Rvingminstrel 7 жыл бұрын
It does record on separate channels. I figured it out after recording this demo. The outputs had to be plugged into 1 rt output and 1 left output then assigned to those outputs. This gives a separate Left for Guitar and separate Right for Vocal. The VE-8 has many options and combinations for output. You can record all on a stereo output, all on mono output, separate L/R, separate mono, separate stereo. I have been very happy with this pedal. Easy to use, output exceeds any other "harmonizer" that I've tried to record with. Of coarse the USB recordings aren't as good as a stand alone DAW but, they are decent with the USB. The recordings directly out to the Zoom H5 have been good. I have owned the Voicelive 3. Service is horrible. It was in for repair more than I had it. After the 4th repair I sold it. It didn't record well and USB recording was very warbled and tinny. Horrible sound on Computer.

@DebErney 7 жыл бұрын
If you are wanting to record 2 separate channels?? The Zoom H5 will record up to 4 separate channels each will record as a separate .wav file. Most USB devices; mixers, effects, recorders, will allow you to record a stereo .wav file. Some will record the stereo output as 1 .wav file for both channels, others will record stereo output as 2 .wav files. It is very confusing because you will not know until you try record with the USB output. The Zoom, H5, H4n records 2 .wav files, each separate, onto an SD card which you transfer to your computer. It will also serve as a basic Stereo (2 .wav files) USB recorder. The Zoom R16 records 8 separate channels with 8 .wav files on an SD Card. Zoom products can be seen here amzn.to/2qfBiBd My experience with the VoiceLive 3 was horrible. It was in for repair constantly, and any recording I tried, DAW/SDCard all sounded very mechanical and brittle. An amp usually will not record to USB without an AUDIO INTERFACE like any of these amzn.to/2pbjwPz

It depends on the equipment. Adjust the volume on your equipment the way you always do. On the Zoom H5 you will adjust the volume so that it doesn’t peak. Maybe -12 to -6? I find the volume is usually around 3-4 on the inputs. But go by the volume monitor on your H5 screen.

I had the TC Helicon voice live Play? Or something like that. It was at TC Helicon getting repaired more than I had it. Hated it. Hard to use, horrible menu system that didn’t make any sense. The Boss is designed for Guitarists, not engineers. Easy to use. Menu system is very user friend.y and it has a much better sound than the TC Helicon which had a very brittle sound to me. Sounded very processes where the Boss ve-8 has a warm, clean sound. Granted, neither of them are good for effects with USB recording but the Boss really shines. Especially for guitarist singers.

I would reset to factory settings. You can see how to do this on page 13, upper left. I find that when I’m trying equipment out the settings may get changed and knock something out that I didn’t mean to knock out. My guess is you have the vocals going out on both channels. You just need to map the guitar to go out to one and vocal to the other. Factory settings set it back to 2 channel stereo. You may want to look at a few of my other videos on the Boss VE-8. The problem is that the radio setting has less volume than the distortion setting and the harmony is also different. I tried lowering the vocal level and the mic sensitivity level but they don’t stay that way when I toggle thru the settings. They go right back to wherever the knob is manually. If you know how I can raise and lower the volume settings while storing i would greatly appreciate an answer. I have songs where I would like to use 3 settings but the volume difference from one to the other makes this impossible. The distortion effect is extremely loved compared to the others.

I take the XLR outputs from the Boss VE-8 directly into tracks 1 & 2 of the Zoom Q8 using XLR cables. I love my Boss VE-8. Truly a band in a box. Harmonies help me sing better as you have to really stay in key for them to sound good. The looper is decent and the addition of an external footswitch allows me to stop start looper without having to double tap.

@@DebErney Thanks for getting back to me....don't understand a lot about outputs/tracks/cables....I play the ukulele and love to sing.....and found out just a week ago there were harmonizers out there that allowed you to sing and have your voice harmonizer with yourself....so I love that idea....and then when I found out about loopers. Just bought a Fishman Loudbox Mini and looking forward to getting something to harmonize/loop with....:-)

@@shellydianenovascotia3914 a word of caution, the VE-8 does not do well with external effects. I have a Fishman Artist and I bypass all effects of the Fishman. I can plug into the back or aux input and it works fine.

@@DebErney I am not quite understanding this Debbie. I want to be able to harmonize with my voice when singing...and do a few loops....so you are saying the BossV8 is no good for this with my Fishman Loudbox Mini?

Shelly Diane the ve-8 will sound good through the Fishman providing you don’t use the amp effects. Both units with effects are not good. I have found that the effects of the VE-8 tend to clash with other effects units. You can play with them, (maybe very low) but my experience is to completely turn off effects on mixer/Fishman and use the effects from the VE-8. This may help you out a bit kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hayGptqBmqmRXas.html
