In the late 80's Daewoo had rifleing problems, Colt stepped in (US Gov request, long story) and taught them how to do it. Hammer forged (Chrome plated 4150) barrel. slide AND frame (7075-T6). Millions without a recall or major malfunctions in 20 Countries. Sorry, I just studied the history of this pistol and find it amazing.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical Ай бұрын
That is pretty amazing. I'd heard about the rifling issues... I figured it was rectified fairly early and was no longer "a thing." But, unfortunately, that stigma seems to have lingered. Somewhat. The NRA's video on the Daewoo pistols mentions it. Broadly. With no context. And yes--never really heard anything to suggest these aren't reliable, tough and... excellent.

Bought mine in 1993. Slide started to rust, found Lionheart (in 2019), saw the Armory and the Legacy LH9. I took mine apart, changed the springs, Regulas hammer, and Cerakoted it like the Sniper Grey one (duplicate). Then I spent $135 ON A FREAKING G10 ROSE GRIPS, but dont worry they came with GOLD Medallians lol.

I spent $100 on g10 grips from Lionheart, too 😎 I’ve certainly spent money on dumber things for guns. Plus… I think they’re really an asset to the gun. Thanks for the comment!

Always loved the DA+ style of guns ( sig sauer DAK, HK LEM ) . I think in todays market with appendix carry and da/sa guns making a small comback, that if HK, Sig literally made more guns with that action and marketed it well enough it would do super well.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, there’s some similarities between all those systems and DA+… but I think DA+ offers something truly unique in that the trigger will not return to the DA position. I’d kinda like to try LEM again. Didn’t care for it… by that was a while ago. Thanks for the comment!

Lionheart needs to make the basic dp51 for $399 and they would sell them like hotcakes... instead they charge almost double what a glock costs and dont sell any. Great buissness move. Id buy a dp51 clone, but not for $1,000.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I agree. I think $399 is gonna be tough to hit for an all-metal gun made in the USA... but... if they could offer something in $700 - $800 range, even then they'd be relevant to soooo many more buyers. A lot of people just want a nice, metal gun with a classic feel... not optics, and tactical gingerbread. In fairness, they sold out of their first Vulcan production run, in '23. So, someone's buying them. But once the rich early adopters have their specimen... I dunno. Anyway, cool discussion. Thanks for the comment, my friend.

I use the fast action for a very quick and smooth fast draw. I pull right through smooth as silk. I also put the Beretta Trigger and Hammer springs from the 92/96 Series because they are a little lighter and make a HUGE difference., especially in double action mode. I also polished the Sear parts and Hammer parts so it is also smooth.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical Ай бұрын
Ohh, that's a good idea. Also interesting that the Beretta springs fit the Daewoo. Yeah, the ACTUAL DA pull is horribly heavy in this thing... but I never use it, thanks to DA+. And I feel like the SA break is more than acceptable... but certainly a touch of polish couldn't hurt. Thanks for the info!

Excellent review, Hipster. You're a true gun nerd and your framing it as a remix of wondernine service pistols makes me even more hyped for the DP51 I've got coming in from GB. If the trigger's so much like a 92, that's good news for me. I was never much of a fan of pre-cocked DA systems, but you did a good job of showing it. Only one way to find out how it really is though, and that's to try it in live fire. Love it or hate it I've been wanting one for a hell of a long time and feel I need it in the collection. I also hope I get an accurate one, but if I end up with one that prints 8 inch groups at 10 yards... oh well 👀 Talkin' about what this is a remix of... Trigger system of a Beretta 92. Locking similar to S&W 3rd Gen. Shape and ergos similar to the S&W 3rd Gen, and I'd say there's a strong Sig P226 resemblance as well. I wonder if Daewoo got the idea of the DA+ off of the Browning HP's SFS system? It's the only thing that has similar operation, but I have no idea about the timelines of these designs. Worth looking into. Would be great if we could hear some of Daewoo's engineer's could talk about their drafting up of the DP51. Ian where you at
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical Ай бұрын
Thank you so much, my friend! I mean... I'm a nerd regardless... but I'm a MASSIVE gun nerd :) Yeah, my sense is the barrel/rifling issue is contained to the very earliest batches of these things. I feel like any DP51 you'd actually find for sale, would have originated after that "fix" happened. But difficult to know for sure. Yeah, there's definitely some parallels to the SFS system. The main difference is that you actuate the hammer via the safety, with SFS... and the Daewoo system just uses the trigger. I think the SFS was designed around the same time as the Hi Power MKIII (by Leon Hubert). So... late 80s? Wouldn't surprise me if Daewoo's engineers took some cues. Anyway... thanks again!

@@HipsterTactical all good man, it's always nice to hear someone just as or even more nerdy than me go off about guns, especially on guns of this era. Huh... Leon Hubert, he still works with BHSS. Since they're usually so responsive, I might send those folks an email asking when exactly SFS came out, just to sate my curiosity 🤔 My DP51 is working its way through the currently slow af postal system and damn, I can't wait, especially after watching this vid. Keep up the good work!

@HipsterTactical

Yeah, mine has that click too. But, in practice, if you’re transitioning from DA+ to SA while shooting… No click. Other than the trigger reset. I would assume the Lionhearts are exactly the same. The fire control parts all the same, as far as I know.

Hey there! If you go to Lionheart's grip page, you'll see "LH9/Regulus Black G10 Grips" toward the bottom of the screen. They look like they're for the full size... but... if you click on the image, you can go in and and select grips for the compact models. Again, Lionheart has changed things up since I bought mine--their current G10 grips don't have the medallion. And the texture is a little different. But... they're still G10. Thanks for watching!

@@HipsterTactical def similarities, I have both 669 and 6906 . I’d like to hear your opinion on the differences. I posted a video on my channel of the 2 side by side . Almost every little detail is different but still same da sa and mag disconnect. But even down to red dot for fire on 669 on slide and red dot on 6906 on frame and both sides for example . Then the grips 3 piece vs wrap around , the ejection port on 6906 is wider and wider top of slide too . Half cock on 669 then removed on 6906 . I could go on but it’s like every little detail they changed yet side by side shoot similar at range . Just such a interesting thing in my opinion. Like in 1987 someone at smith was like “how do we change everything but keep it the same “ blows my mind . Cheers bro

All steel and having smaller ejection port , then new slide with wider ejection and then widest and Glock style square slide in the end of the gen with value lines . It’s sad what happened to the biggest American line of semis .
