It sounds like your recoil spring is weak. The shide should decelerate before it reaches it's limit. Maybe ask your local gun Smith if he can tune it up with a heavier one.
@benjaminlhargrave
@benjaminlhargrave Күн бұрын
I have to disagree that the shorter slide would make recoil worse. The mass of the slide traveling backwards contributes to recoil, so it only makes sense that you would want a shorter, lighter slide for less recoil.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical Күн бұрын
Yeah, I realize that people often opt for shorter, lighter slides for a faster tracking pistol with less muzzle rise; more slide mass definitely kicks the muzzle up under recoil. But,I tend to think muzzle rise and felt recoil are different things... this gun actually shoots incredibly flat, but kicks like a mule. Comparatively, the P5 has a more relaxed recoil impulse, but slightly more muzzle rise--and the major difference is slide mass/length. Of course I could be wrong... I offer all of my pseudo-scientific analyses with the caveat that I have a degree in creative writing--not physics. But thanks for the comment.

I have two P239’s. One in 9mm. One in .40S&W/357 SIG. both DAK. A couple points. I have small hands. Strong, just small. I prefer single stack. Carried 1911 for 20 years as a duty gun. I’m afraid in a fight for my gun, someone could wrest a double stack out of my hand. I simply can’t close my hand around it far enough. The P239 shoots like a duty gun. It’s tried and true. I also carry appendix. I don’t like carrying a cocked pistol pointed at my femoral artery. I like the hammer. I can put my thumb on it when I reholster. Side note. The P239 was Navy SEAL issue for covert assignments.

@@AlexRTDdad Thanks for that context! Yeah, I’ll say I get a really secure on a P239-single stacks often feel more natural. Interesting to hear of the SEAL usage-they also used the Walther PPS, which is interesting. Thanks for the perspective!

The gen 2 p99s indeed have a spot for an rfid chip, that protrudes into the backstrap, about the diameter and thickness of a shirt button. The backstraps on the gen 2s have material removed to make room foor it.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical 3 күн бұрын
Good to know. Thanks for confirming that. The PDP back strap actually has a little recess inside… so maybe it’s designed to accommodate the chip? But can’t say for sure.

@@HipsterTactical i don't have a pdp, but according to my research (looking at pictures on reddit) the slot for the RFID on the pdp is oriented perpendicular to the grip and sticks out a lot further. The p99's is flat against it. To make the pdp strap work on the gen 2 p99 youd need a cut about 15mm in diameter and 4mm deep in the lower half. On the other hand, the pdp's rfid slot would have to fit into the molded gaps on the inside of the p99 backstrap Hope that helps. Love the channel, you have good taste

Very cool comparison! The P5 is cool for sure. I just wonder what the P5 (or P6/P7) did that the P38/P1 didn’t. It’s odd to me they adopted a bunch of single stack 9s, which they had already been using for decades.
@HipsterTactical
@HipsterTactical 8 күн бұрын
Thanks, my friend! And yeah-that’s a good question. I’ve often wondered why double stacks didn’t catch on with DA/SA pistols until later. I can only surmise that, for police use, the Germans thought the additional bulk of a high cap mag was overkill and unnecessary. I’ll say that handling a P6/P225 vs. a P228/P229 is a different experience. The P6 feels more connected, intimate… and just more handy overall. And the only difference is really the width of the frame and grip. I dunno… just theorizing. But it’s a good question. Take care!

@@HipsterTactical Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I can see your point, a single stack definitely has a different feel. It just blows my mind the High Power came out in the 30s and most countries continued to use single stacks all the way up into the 80s. The 1935A and S, the MAC 1950, the Beretta 1951, P210 and P75, P38, the P5-7 etc. It’s like they suddenly remembered that the high power was double stack in the late 70s, and were like what if we tried that again?
