This is high level ART. We'll break down the genres, samples used, recreate a few songs, and see how this album is a sampling masterclass.

Why Random Access Memories is such a cool finale album from Daft Punk is because instead of using samples from released songs like they previously did, they got artists who they previously sampled to play hours of music for them, and sampled through their own recordings

i think thats why i dont enjoy it as much. it feels inauthentic and bland. same issue with Justice - they got enough money and studio access to actually make the stuff they used to sample and it loses the attitude and transgressive vibe that sampling brings. i understand people liking RAM, and what they like about it, but the whole album is pretty much a skip for me.

@@AutPen38 I totally misheard it as well, but in completely different ways. When I first heard it I would always hear it as "face to face now" and "face to face", since that's the song title. But I later read somewhere (wrongly) that it was a French sample, and then I couldn't stop hearing it in as "qu'est-ce tu fais là" and "qu'est-ce tu fais", which means "what are you doing there" and "what are you doing". Pretty wild the way our brains fill in the gaps when we aren't certain what something is.

Honestly, if you are interested in branching out in more stories about samples used in music, the controversy behind Dangermouse "The Gray Album", Jay-Z, The Beatles, and EMI snatching that concept with the cease and desist order to flip The Gray Album into a Linkin Park release... @@MutleeIsTheAntiGod Short version of the story : - Dangermouse took an EMI released a capella of Jay-Z's Black Album and remixed it from start to finish with The Beatles White Album. He named the result "The Gray Album". - EMI (Jay-Z's label) pulled the a capella from circulation and issues a cease and desist order to Dangermouse adding the threat of a copyright infringement lawsuit despite the fact that Dangermouse distributed The Gray Album for free online profiting on none of it. It was Dangermouse demonstrating what quality sampling is capable of. - The internet caught wind of a big label trying to squeeze money from an independent artist and held a mass protests, having major websites display their sites in grayscale, showing solidarity for Dangermouse. - Months after the protests and lawsuit threats, EMI released a "collaboration" with Linkin Park + Jay-Z, stealing Dangermouse's initial idea for commercial use.

I completely agree with this take but not just from a electronic music perspective…. It is SO FUCKING HARD to make a full album great start to finish, it’s what sets apart the great ones from the ok/good ones. With that said there’s still bands/artists making great albums the great ones always will. The problem I think is us the listeners, I think people just don’t listen to full albums anymore, they listen to songs/playlists it’s not right or wrong but because of this artists focus is making 1 hit song instead of cohesive albums….

There's something beautifull when you get explained and understard, why you like something that you liked, and you didnt know why you did. And thenk you like it even more. THANK YOU.

How to Daft Punk: Take an old record, slow it down, cut and play housebeat.

Yeah but thinking of actually doing that, picking the right record, sampling the right parts, using the right drums to fit is way harder than how youre making it sound

I finally found the Edwin Birdsong record at a local record shop and got it for a steal of a deal. I wouldn’t have grabbed it if I hadn’t watched your video on Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Salute! Edit: Also, I think breaking down 10cc’s music and how they’ve been sampled through history (ie: Dilla’s Workinonit) would be sick. They are definitely under appreciated

Love watching and re-watching this video. As a person who went to college for music composition (said college shut down), and also is a huge fan of daft punk, this video never fails to fill me with motivation and passion for anything. Keep up all the great work!

Brilliant digging as usual, always an education. For me, Homework is by far their best album. It genuinely blew mind when i first heard it. I’m indifferent to the follow ups, just not my taste. They were incredibly talented 😎

Amazing video as always, but the samples you showcased for 'Face to Face' are only the tip of the iceberg. There are so many "microchops" of various other songs from the same era that weren't discovered until recently. This video does a pretty good job of recreating all those samples kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8eRid19neDMn4U.html This just shows how incredible Daft Punk were at their craft!

Superb video, well done. I've been listening to Daft Punk constantly since my discovery of them in 2001, this album is truly a masterpiece and your breakdown and analysis really shows that (for those who didn't already know)

It’s insane the amount of work you put into this video. You started it perfectly just going straight into it with ‘One more time’ and showing us how it happened, to the end it on probably the most complex but interesting song of the album which is ‘Face to face.’ Excellent work, never even knew they sampled or anything. Thanks for this awesome video, I liked it and subscribed.
