I must admit I do not know the technical aspects of Hindustani music (shame on me), but I am always in a state of divine bliss whenever I hear it. My late father was an ardent fan of the senior Dagar brothers, and used to listen to their Dhrupad recitals on cassette, heralding the monsoon rains during warm summer evenings in New Delhi in the 80's...what an enchanted life it was back then. :)

Dhurpad ko kabhi bhi kata nahi gaya hai. Uska faayda aur advantage lekar aage usi se satranngi Khayal Gayaki ka nirmaan kiya gaya jo aaj bhi zinda hai aur rahega. Dhurpad aur Khayal Gayaki ka comparison karna badi naa samjhi hai. Dhurpad gayaki ka mahatava aur gehraayi apni jagaah hai. Dhurpad Gayaki ki unpopularity ka kaaran kahin na kahin uski rigidity aur monotonous attitude rho sakta hai. Phir bhi khaas vishes roop se Famous Agra Gharana, Atrauli(Jaipur) Khurja Gharana, Hapur Gharana Delhi Tanras Gharanas me Khayal Gayaki ke saath uske Gayakon Naayakon ne use zinda rakha aur concerts level par khub khub pesh bhi kiya. Yeh bhi sahi hai ke Dagar Bani ke Ustadon ne Dhurpad Gayaki ko aaj tak bhi prachalit rakha hai. Iske liye unka bhot abhinandan hai.

Aap ne sahi pharamaya hai. Dhrupad Gayaki dil ki gaharayi tak pahoonch jaati hai. It is a spiritual experience.

Actually, the male anchor doesn't know anything. He forgets that the nom tom alaap has "Om shri anantara hari narayana" embedded in it.

I think the nom tom aalap is not just some combination of swar s. I think its a presentation of '....Om anant tam .... tararn tarini tom... ananta hari narayana om....' more or less something like that. Please let me know if i am wrong.

Perhaps yes, Bahauddin Dagar had once remarked that Baijyanath Mishra ( Baba Bhairam Khan) after studying the respective texts and Sanskrit grammar modified the erstwhile format of dhrupad. For eg. Hari became Ri( ह्रि), Narayan became Na (ना रे ना).. etc. So maybe yes what you are saying is correct..
