This is probably the most honest and realistic video I've seen of what a day looks like on a $700/month budget if you live in Bangkok. I've stayed in the outskirts too and I think it's worth paying a little more to be closer to the center of the city if you're planning to visit it 3-4 times per week. Having said that, there are some areas that are far from the center that are not that bad (ie Bang Kapi) but also some where there isn't much to do (ie Wong Sawang). My question to you is, is it still worth living in BKK on that budget? Wouldn't it be better if you went to a smaller Thai city and get a place for like $300/month and with less time commuting?

I appreciate this comment so much! As a traveler with 10+ years experience, I really try to show people the reality of travel and sometimes it’s just this. No excitement. Just getting stuff done, saving a few bucks and trying to stay sane. I think you’re right that a little investment could have gotten me closer to town. But I ventured in every week! Every month is different for me. I’m now in Chiang Mai, paying more on my accommodation, but also much closer to everything (but still far enough to feel peaceful) and its been incredible so far! My budget of 450-550 gets me very different things depending on city and country. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose! Hahaha. Thanks so much! :-)

@@GringoNation I went to CM for a few days. I stayed in the Old City and I just didn't find the place to my liking, compared to BKK. What is it that you like there more? What's the area you live in? Are you going to make a video about it? Safe travels!

Cool video 👍 That apartment is pretty sick for a $700 a month lifestyle. Those far flung outskirts of Bangkok can be super cheap.

Hey I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment! The apartment suited me pretty well. But as a foreigner looking to get social, I could’ve tried paying 50 to 100 more for something more central. Either way, good to see they have great deals like this. The pool factor has been so important for me in recent months. Really takes the edge off sometimes. Cheers!

This reminds me a lot of when I stayed in Bangkok. Pretty similar apartment gym, and pool but also away from the center. I really enjoyed my stay and like you said no matter where you are in Bangkok you have everything near you. The night market near my place was always popping. I also remember even though I used Airbnb there were signs all over the condo that Airbnb was illegal is that still the case or have things changed?

Why not stay somewhere for at least a few months so you can save money on rent? 450 per month is a lot for Thailand, even BKK

Hey Jeff! Thanks for watching! The short answer to this question is: I'm running a travel channel here! haha... I'm sure if I decided to settle down somewhere and got a long term agreement, I could save money on rent, but it's just not the intention right now. That said, in the Airbnb world, 450 is pretty decent. I've rarely paid much less than that in any other country. Maybe a couple of exceptions only?

1 learn atleast some basic thai 2 live in normal Bangkok and not central 3 mix eat out with cook thaifood home 4 dont even TRY live like a "westerner" 5 dont spend money on ladys or alcohol then u can easily live on a low amount like a lover middleclass working single thai do. Personally i would aim for 1200$-1500$ for a comfortable and cheap lifestyle WITH a basic insurance

Ridiculous. Sure one can live on 700 if one pays no health insurance, pays no car insurance back in the home country, pays no car registration back home, has no useful travel insurance.. etc.. and the list goes on. No entertainment, no significant other to pay for, etc..
@GringoNation
@GringoNation Ай бұрын
What if I told you I don't have any of those expenses except travel health insurance (about 25 a month). Not everyone finds themselves in the same circumstances. 700 gives you accommodation and food. You can survive on it much more respectably than in the USA, for example. I can have lots of fun with an extra 300 if I want to, any given month. Simply presenting alternative lifestyles. Thanks for watching!

Living off $700 per month in Thailand would be a miserable existence
@Ned88Man
@Ned88Man Ай бұрын
Correction. Living off $700 in Thailand in a city like Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mia, Samui might be a terrible existence. But you can live very well of that amount if you are in some other place and don't expect to eat western foods all the time and drink like a fish. The problem usually, is that people want to have a standard of living that is like that of the west. But, I live in Issan with my wife and daughter (granted we live in our own home) and we live very comfortably for about $750 a month. So, yes, if you expect the luxuries of the west and want to live in a fancy Condo etc, then $700 would be a m miserable existence, but for many others, especially those 'upcountry" it is very very doable. Again, people that require a lot more, are living a very un Thai lifestyle ...I am pretty low maintenance, I don't expect to be 'wined and dined' eating imported expensive foods all the time, so, as I said, $700 would be very doable for me.
