Russian troops have created a monster ‘turtle tank’ as they try to thwart Ukrainian drones

Video shows the tank has been completely covered in armour plating and anti-drone wire. It also has a KMT-7 mine plough on the front that is designed to clear minefields. The tank is also likely equipped with advanced jamming equipment to stop the drones. This is not visible in the video but has been attached to similar tanks. More footage from inside the tank shows how the armour restricts the tank’s view. The turret is more or less immobilised and cannot rotate under the armour. And the added weight appears to have slowed the vehicle down to a crawl. However, Ukrainian troops say these tanks have proved surprisingly hard to stop. Russian armoured assault increasingly feature these tanks at the head of columns. This is because Ukraine is running low on artillery shells and anti-tank rockets, which would have relatively little trouble penetrating this kind of armour. And has been replacing these weapons with FPV drones, which are far less destructive but far more accurate meaning they can target the tank’s weakest spots. Russia is also thought to be running low on tanks so is trying to conserve what it has. #russia #ukraine #war

Let's be honest - this really looks stupid, but all the tanks in the world are faced with one problem - drones burn any tank, regardless of its protection. So if this works, then perhaps the Abrams in 5 years will look the same. In general, taking into account the fact that a mine collector is attached to the front of the tank, it looks like a kind of “breakthrough tank”, whose goal is to attract all the attention of the enemies so that its comrades in a more “classical line-up” can fight their way forward.

There are numerous videos on Telegram showing these tanks working super effectively going deep into Ukraine territory. The BIG point this article fails to mention is that NATO drones cannot seem to even to attack this vehicle because it is bristling with so much electronic wizardry that attacking drones cannot even get close ; they become unresponsive and go off course. The armour is for deflecting shell attacks of course.

There have been multiple articles about that over the past 2 years where they even make lightweight cardboard drones as well as things like hobbyist drones that are highly effective at dropping grenades and mortar shells, mostly on infantry and lightly armored vehicles. Not to mention that drones like the switchesblades aren't being used much to attack armored vehicles but are used to attack targets like supply posts, command positions and other more strategically valuable targets.

Ukrainians don't have 1000''s of hypersonic missiles (China) that could be used on Russian tanks. They don't have HYPER advanced drones that could target a blade of grass from a different continent (U.S). They're not fighting a modern war. They're fighting some Slavic civil war that's like if WW1 stumbled upon some slightly more advanced cold war technology. Comparing this war to a potential modern war between great powers is apples to oranges. I'm not saying tanks are irrelevant, but compared to different eras it's so much easier to take them out.

Its very hard with drones since if they flied too low the drone will lose signal and missed or ram to the fortified parts. Grenades cannot kill the track and in front of it is demining device. This thing invulnerable against APFSDS, high-calibe HE shells and tandem ATGM. That's why another cage was soldered to the outer layer to counter tandem ATGM. The responsibility to counter arty and M3 Bradley which has APDS enough to penetrated the tank now belonged to drone operator, arty and attack helicopter. They must ensured when the turtle entered the minefield it will not encountered Bradley or arty.

Not that easy because it also equiped with ECM (drone jammer). Drone will lost control when fly near it. Previously drone operator just stay far away to prepare and aim the drone, then fly directly right toward the tank like missile, so even if drone lost control it doesn't matter because it will hit the tank anyway. But to aim for small part like track or unprotected area of this turtle tank is another story. Also flying low to aim at track is harder because signal will be obstruct by tree or terrain, combine that with jamming it impossible.

Russia issues military ultimatum to UK Moscow has threatened retaliation for any attacks with British weapons Moscow will retaliate against British targets in Ukraine or elsewhere if Kiev uses UK-provided missiles to strike Russian territory, the Foreign Ministry told London’s ambassador on Monday. Ambassador Nigel Casey was summoned to the ministry following remarks by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron to Reuters that Ukraine has the right to use long-range missiles sent by the UK to strike deep inside Russia. ”Casey was warned that the response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons on Russian territory could be any British military facilities and equipment on the territory of Ukraine and beyond,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following the meeting.
