I enjoyed your set up video showcasing what Apple is doing software wise using different devices along with a external monitor. Can’t wait for the beta versions to be done and sent out for everyone to enjoy once finalized. Watching this brought me back to when you did the Ultimate Desktop Setup vids. I missing seeing those! universal control is an absolute godsend! Until December of last year, I’ve been working with a 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro as my daily driver. Shortly after graduating uni did I realize how much did it help to have a second screen. Last December, I bought an iPad Air 5, and oh boy is it fun to use with universal control. I didn’t feel like wasting nearly $300 on Apple’s cantilever Magic Keyboard, and Universal Control solves all of this. My only gripe is that it’s not on iPhone, but I can understand the complexities and oddities of adding a cursor to your phone.

One of your best videos Chris! It really showcases what Macs can do. Please do one with more budget friendly options. I want to encourage others to go with the Mac options, but I think that sticker price will shock many of them. Keep up the good work!

Hey Chris, how do you see a Mac mini fitting into your productivity set up? I have my MacBook Pro and ipad and have my monitor attached to Mac mini with the m1 chip. really interested in your thoughts. Do I un plug the mini and stream line a bit more? Cheers.

I can’t update my 2018 MacBook Pro until there’s a camera in the middle of the device. As brilliant as the design Apple has with both hardware and software…I just can’t upgrade. Love the setup brother!

I’m pretty new to Mac I’ve only had mine since 2021 but when I used sidecar I used my iPad and Apple Pencil on garage band and it worked perfectly

It sounds great to have a monitor and hard drives all connected through a single cable, but you would have to have the macbook pro constantly connected to the power and I wonder if in the long term or not so long term that could affect the useful life of the macbook pro for being connected to the power all the time. i went to an apple store here in florida and they told me that even though apple battery power management technology is very advanced they do not recommend having the computer connected all the time through a monitor that supplies power to the macbook pro, can you help with this dilemma?. Does the cursor move seamlessly if I put the iPad above the Macbook Pro screen? I prefer a vertical arrangement, so I only need to move my eyes, not my head/neck.

Great video. I love Universal Control and the "multi-ness" of it. I recently purchased a Mac Studio and wanted to pair it with the new Apple Studio Display but none were available. Then I got to thinking why not use a M1 14" iMac as my Studio Display with Universal Control - it's the same price - actually slightly less. I get ALL the features of the Studio Display and more...like a back-up computer!

It’s crazy that I almost have this exact setup even before seeing this video. Mine is not as top tier brands in terms of accessories and my cord management is currently an eye sore lol

I love the monitor. I have it. Only thing dislike is HDMI will only run at 50hz. TB4 is at 75hz but max refresh for HDMI is only 50hz, if you're lucky.

I have now recently bought a more modest lg 4k 27" monitor for about 250 dollars and have my MacBook Pro plus 12.9 iPad and yes it all works great as you show. I am loving it, now I’m upgrading my ‘workstation’, although truth be told I don’t work on it much. *I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter but couldn’t input my email address as the keyboard wouldn’t appear on screen. I’ll use a separate keyboard, but thought you’d want a heads up.

Hi don't know if you can help but I'm want to have an extension usc c to usb c from ipad pro into usb c hub as all these hubs only have short pigtail cables will this wirk ok... I'm actually wanting to connect ipad to midi keyboard and 3.5 mm headphones plus other ports. Sorry off topic a bit but thought I'd ask. As I'm struggling to choose one!!

I can’t seem to get the universal control to work, my Mac doesn’t let me tick the box. I have a mac which is up to date to macOS montury12.6.1 and an IPad Pro M1 2021. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix this problem?

Im a massive fan of the Apple Ecosystem and have been since 2008 - Currently Im rocking a 2017 13 Inch Macbook Pro with a 2020 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and pencil. My peripheral’s are a Logitech MX Keys & MX Master Mouse (the origional series 1). So my question - when I use Universal control, and I attempt to use the scroll wheel on my iPad, the scrool reverts back to my Macbook Control - I need to manually use a slider on a document to scroll on the screen of my iPad - which is just annoying! My device will scroll with an Apple Magic Mouse, but for my Logitech it just doesnt work. Do you have a fix for this - as whilst I have multiple magic moice, I prefer my MX Master. Also - a tip I have for Sidecar - connect via cable (annoying, I know), but then the glitches (which make it virtually unusable for me in wireless form) are non-existent! Cheers & keep up the quality content!

Great video as usual Chris. Lovin' your set-up! Right around 2:00 I saw a white Water Bottle? Where did you get that? I am guessing at the Apple Employee store on the Apple Campus. My wife is an Electronic Engineer for TI, and one of her clients is Apple. She works on MacBook power supplies. She brings me bling every time she goes to Cupertino. I have shirts, pens, hats, jackets, a bunch of stuff, but I don't have that water bottle.

You might have covered in previous video, what iPad app is that you use for those drawings?

I love Universal Control as well, but the only glitch I have is that when using my Mac keyboard when I switch over to the iPad, special characters aren’t working, like exclamation point, # symbol, etc. I’ve tried Apple’s keyboard as well as Logitech MX mini with the same results. Not sure if it’s something about my setup or if it’s just a bug, but I hope it gets resolved.

Sad to hear Sidecar is glitchy. I bought my iPad to use the Pencil for photo editing, while Affinity Photo was running on my desktop. Should be getting my ASD soon, and finally be able to try it out. (Affinity is also available as an iPad app, but its interface is so different from the Mac version I just get confused).

I love the setup. Very similar to my own, but I disagree that it’s like a Lambo. I think it’s more like a pilot and an airplane or a taxi driver and their cab. These are tools.

It's not like sidecar that just ended up being a Mac extension. You raved about that feature so much and told that everyone was wrong about it 🤷🏾‍♂️ Same thing you did with stage manager which honestly is not that great. It's a good upgrade over the previous version but not groundbreaking. I still can't use my iPad completely.
