Great reel, I have the lexa HD 400 winn grip. Fished the crap out of it for 4 years now. Surprises me every time at what it can do.

100% agreed. And you telling me 4 years, confirms how well it lasts longevity wise. Really is such an amazing reel in a small package. Thanks for watching Danny 🙌

Put mine back together and the anti revers tab seems to be clicking now when I reel forward. Any idea how to correct this?

@@mattgillisfishing it’s uses a collar sleeve. Sometimes it might slip off, when you have the main gear off, look at how it slips onto the rachet gear. If you still have a problem, look at my profile and you can send pics to my email there. I’ll see how I can help further from there. 👍

This looks like a tough bait caster. I recently purchased a Penn Squall II BC 300 left hand but haven't had a chance to open it up. Here in Indonesia the prices are all over the place but the best price seems to be around $200 USD for both the Squall and the Lexa (200-300). Is there a big difference between the Tatula or Lexa? Daiwa and Shimano offer so many models from dirt cheap to astronomically expensive I can't keep up. I prefer Penn products because you can count the full line on both hands and a couple toes but they cover a wide range of budgets and they are all dependable reels.

Tatula has daiwas fresh water bearings and much less beefy internals. The lexa is built with the intention if exclusive salt water use, the tatulas are built with fresh water use in mind. The new Lexa TW which is basically a saltwater tatula, exact same foundation with much beefier internals.

I’ve been looking at the Fathom BC, the squall looks so identical as well. I believe the Tranx all use brass gear including their 500 models as they are same gears from Trinidad models. For the Lexa/Tatula, perhaps the Tatula has brass gears also. I had my eye on a Tatula for bay fishing here, but as you mentioned, all the pricing is all over the place nowadays. I’ll have to check a fathom/squall out in the future, but def can’t go wrong with the LexaHD model, since everyone has been leaning towards newer TW variant. Thanks Pak De🙌

Oh yeah and the new penns are essentially Revo Toros with a like 1 or 2 diffrent parts and the penn branding slapped all over it. They are very decent reels. Both squall and fathom have fully brass gears. The tranx is the least salt worthy reel of the batch, ive had to replace too many parts on those reels.

@@fieshyfish Soul with the knowledge 🙌🙌🙌 I had a Revo Toro once in hand and it was too pretty to get it wet, so i sold it 😂. Thanks for the insight on the Tranx, the Lexa HD variants in 300-400 had just a bit more line capacity than the Tranx versions so I went that route but was always curious about the 500, since everyone places it as Trinidad internal in a BC version, but decided open top star drag was the way to go at that size. Always appreciate your input. Thank you 🙌🙌🙌

@@Seastheday88 the tranx 500 is really more of a torium in a levelwind package than a trinidad, they do have a few extra bearings and an extra dog and they are nice reels but way overpriced for what they are. What makes the Trinidad special is the machined aluminum foundation, the internals are meaningless without it so its hard to compare the 2 considering the tranx is a cast aluminum reel with a graphite side plate. But thats what shimano makes people think so... Ive heard rumors of a Lexa 500 TW in feild testing as we speak thats supposed to be released this year, and I heard the price should be around $459 which would make a lot more sense. I have the 400 size and so far its been the best in overall performance compared to the others ive used, a 500 size would be killer for sure.

This model is still currently sold as of 2023 and 2024. There is now a Lexa-TW model that is lighter and smaller but no longer has the stainless gears.

Would you say this model is better than the lexa tw400
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 2 жыл бұрын
My understanding is the TW400 is brass/bronze gears. By paper specs, the TW does have more drag, but personally for the price, I’m keeping my 400HD. I still hunt for fair priced used if a 7.1 gear comes across, I’ll add that to my arsenal. You also get more line capacity out of the HD vs TW. Hope that helps 🙌

@l350ceballos i have had both reels and have extensivly tested my lexa 400tws the last 10 months ive had it. Its best freats were batrays up to 100lbs, black seabass up yo 80lbs, and tons of very large leopard sharks. Its become my favorite baitcaster and one of my favorite reels to use. Let me break down a few of the more important details I've learned after testing. First is the widely questioned gear train consisting of a bronze drive gear and a stainless pinion and how durable it would be. The 100lb batray i caught ripped off 250 yards with 15lbs of drag in about a minute and took another 300+ yards throughout the fight, that is a lot of pressure for a reel this size and it was pretty bafflingly how well it held up. I finally decided to give it a nice little clean up inside after 10 months of use and around 600lbs of fish caught. Absolutely 0 signs of wear on anything, thoroughly inspected the gear train and there were 0 signs of wear. Nothing in the reel needed to be replaced. I had to replace both pinion bearings on my tranx 300 after 4 months of use so this reel has proved to be extremely durable for a 400 size baitcaster. Another part of this reel I've absolutely fallen in love with is the casting. To say the least, its casting performance is unmatched by any reel in its size. Daiwas T-Wing system is a brilliant design and does what it was made to do extremely efficiently. The external cast control is one of my favorites as well. I loved this reel so much I sold my trini 20a I used for surface iron duty and replaced it with the lexa 400tw, and after using it I have absoluetly 0 regrets. Having flawless line lay and much better casting distance with 0 backlash is just amazing. This reel is more like a futuristic tranx with salt worthy internals, it has much better bearing support as well. Anyways, point is that its a amazing reel that i cant say enough about, its truly the future of baitcasters. However, the lexa 400HD still has its place and is excellent value with most of the TW's features and its proven for sure. Cant go wrong with either but if you want the latest and greatest, the TW gives you just that.

@@fieshyfish the man with the knowledge and experience 🙌🙌🙌seriously amazing milage put on that TW, I’ve been wanting one but holding back at the time. Drag numbers are there and if you’re getting that long of a run and peel, just goes to show it’s amazing. Still love my HD and tried to source a 300HD, but might consider a TW instead. Bro been wanting to ask you about the Tesoro if you had experience with it. Picked one up to test and found stainless main and pinion. I got the 5n but want to try a bigger frame. Haven’t had a chance to play with it yet since I’ve only done offshore. Thanks for sharing the info🙌🤙

@@Seastheday88 the tesoros are some nice reels for sure. I got the 10s and 5s myself and I havent got to use them much but internally they look solid! They are a little less refined than the trinidads saltigas or torques but for $300 they offer incredible value. The machined and anodized frame/body, 17-4 stainless gears, and open tsi lubed bearings are some really nice premium features for $300 reel. I would say they are a nice upgrade above the fathoms toriums and saltists in terms of overall quality and just under the trinidads and saltigas which i did enjoy fishing a little bit more. But for $300 these are very special reels that offer more than they should.

@@fieshyfish thanks for the insights. Still thinking about what you’re suggesting with the TW. Feels like majority of species, the TW is plenty. When it’s bigger, the 2spd comes to play.
