Hello between the penn fathom star drag vs the torium which would you recommend for a starter reel? Thank you 🙌🏼
@Seastheday8820 сағат бұрын
If you like the form, Torium looks modern. If you want the function, Fathom all the way. A slightly nicer model for just a shy more is the Okuma Tesoro which is on clearance from Charkbait website.

@@Duhamal thank you for asking. I’ve slimmed the profile as much as possible as current hooks with their teflon cord have really strong abrasion resistance. Plus our jig profile have gone smaller. @briannguyen739115 күн бұрын
Hey! So if you had to buy one, would you get the Lexa TW, lexa 500, or tranx 500? I’m leaning towards the Daiwa reels as I prefer the left-handed review, but I’ve heard so many negative things about Daiwa reel durability. I have a tranx and prorex, but I’ve gone through 2 tranx 401s HGs in 3 year. Thanks again for the detailed review.
@Seastheday8815 күн бұрын
All depends what you’re targeting. Tranx500 would be the proper baitcaster to chase 30lb and up. Lexa HD, I’ve owned all iterations and it does really well for salt. I’m still putting more time in the water for the ProRex, but I’m liking it being a few ounces lighter than the HD. You have the Prorex, so no need for a TW. Did you send the Tranx in for service? I’ve seen dried up salt built up that prevents lots of moving parts, but could still be cleaned out. Personally I kept my Tranx500, ProRex, LexaHD, and have a couple Alijos300. They all serve different purposes for different trips.

@@Seastheday88 thanks for getting back to me! I’m contemplating buying another reel as a main reel for larger baits for musky and pike. The baits definitely give the reels a pounding as the baits being thrown are up to 1.5 lbs. I’m just looking for something consistent without the durability concerns. I haven’t sent the tranx in yet as Turnaround time takes months and our fishing season is already limited in the north woods.
@Seastheday8815 күн бұрын
@@briannguyen7391 of course! Awesome, always wanted to try musky and pike, def strenuous on the reels seeing the vids of how anglers fish them. For all day casting, lighter the better considering your casting lure sizes. The Tranx400 is still a really nice compact size. The ProRex if you’re leaning towards Daiwa. Just need to find a local tech that can service them considering both Shimano and Daiwa service centers are based in California.

Which is better for YT and small blue fin the Trinidad or these bait casters?
@Seastheday8816 күн бұрын
The Trinidad will give you the most line capacity in 20size and either sizes will be best for fly lining a live bait. The baitcasters will be more easier to use for those starting or those casting lures. You’ll learn better techniques and skill set if you start off with conventional like Trinidad. But for YT and smaller BFT, you’ll do perfectly fine with the baitcasters plus it’d be fun if they’re on the top and you can cast to them.

Also, VISX handle might look just as long, but if you measure from axis of rotation at the reel, to axis of rotation of the grip, the VISX is 1/4 inch SHORTER.
@djdemiterАй бұрын
VISX handle is 5mm thickness, and stock handle is 4mm. This means the gear-shift pin does not engage all the way. Handles MUST be shaved down 1mm thickness (0.040 inches), or this mod will cause problems. Also, when drilling 1/8 holes, start a bit from each side and meet in the middle so that the hole will stay centered, and you don't get burrs on one side.

Active Level Wind (level wind engaged when the reel is in free spool) is a liability, not a feature, in my opinion.

@Seastheday882 ай бұрын
@@cryinclown8505 that’s a sweet reel. You’ll remove the two small hex screws which keeps the main bolt from backing out. When you remove the main bolt, keep pressure on the star drag wheel holding it towards the reel as there’s a spring and it will want to pop off as you loosen that bolt. Once the bolt is fully off, you can adjust the handle to the longer length, keep in mind for the star drag wheel and also any washers between them and handle to move it towards the longer side. Retighten and you’re good to go.
