The cause of the blurring is the French Evin law (1991) which prohibits tobacco and alcohol advertising especially in sport in France. My footage comes from a DVD released in 2007.

For those who don't speak French, the guy crying at the end @10:37, Hubert Auriol, actually crashed and broke both ankles 20km earlier, and still managed to cross the finish line. Not really tears of joy. He proceeds to say "I want to thank Cyril for this rally, it was a sublime one, it was a gorgeous fight, he's stronger, I'm quitting motorbike, that's all I have to say" Cyril Neveu later replied "Someone had to win, unfortunately it was me" Some solid sportsmanship right here.

@@ANTHONY.C42 merci pour l'info 👍🏻👍🏻, quand je rappelle de l'issue de son duel en 87 ( cette vidéo) avec Neveux et qu'il est arrivé en avance avec les 2 chevilles cassées, même s'il pleurait de douleur, je l'ai vu à l'époque, en direct, pour moi, c'était l'image du compétiteur ultime, un grand monsieur en est allé.

For people who wants even more informations about this last famous day, Auriol had punctures all day because of a broken spoke, he lost a lot of time and took risks, at 20km before the finish he missed a turn and decided to go between two trees but both his feets got stucks in a root and he got ejected form his bike, another biker helped him to restart his bike and he managed to cross the finished with two anckles fractures, he could not even shift gears, one was an open fracture with the bone going through the flesh, he was forced to retire from this Dakar he was largely winning, the day before the last stage. This is some of the legendery hardcore Dakar stuff, his rivalry against Neveu probably remains the craziest of all time and all categories, and sorry if my english is not so great.

Guessa France, là c'est clair qu'il y avait du lourd aux niveau pilotage. Je connais Hubert Auriol depuis l'époque où il faisait de l'enduro et s'était un sacré client sur les spéciales pour les autres concurrents.

Auriol un vero eroe motociclistico. Si ritirò da primo in classifica nonostante l'arrivo della terzultima tappa con le caviglie rotte. Aveva percorso gli ultimi 20 chilometri senza poter lavorare con il cambio... Meritava lui la vittoria. Neveu infatti in precedenza aveva perso la testa della classifica per suoi errori di navigazione e guida, mentre Auriol si era ritrovato poi a perdere quasi tutto il vantaggio su di lui a causa di una serie di forature nella tappa della ferrovia. Senza quelle avrebbe potuto amministrare il vantaggio senza correre rischi e a due tappe dalla fine avrebbe vinto. "Mancò la fortuna, non il valore". (cit.) Anche per lui.

Это не Африка твин. Коммерческий мотоцикл и спортивный совершенно разные, Африку создавали заново. Африка твин никогда не участвовала в соревнованиях на высоком уровне. Именно поэтому Африка такой успешный мотоцикл. Простому потребителю нужен надежный и комфортный мотоцикл, а не спортивный болид. А вот ямаха с тенеркой пошли по-другому пути, они адаптировали гоночный мотоцикл для массового потребителя и их продажи значительно меньше, чем у Африки.

quand on est jeune, on apprécie ce genre d'exploits, mais avec le temps o se rend compte que c est con de traverser le désert, ces paysages irréels loin de tout à grande vitesse en ne pensant qu à une chose : arriver 1er, le résultat. sans prendre le temps de profiter de ces moments magiques. traverser le sahara seul ou à 2 est déjà une épreuve en soit pour avoir à en rajouter

En vérité, avec l'âge, on se rend compte que la victoire n'est pas due au fait d'être plus rapide que les autres, c'est avant tout une succession de bons choix, navigation, gestion de la cadence en spéciale et gestion de son potentiel à rester en forme / affûté, pour ne pas faire d'erreur, c'est la reine des courses de fond et routes ouvertes....

dommage d'oublier ce cher Gaston Rahier qui s'arrête pour relever la moto et Hubert Auriol tout seul alors qu'il ne fait à peine plus de 1,60m, la moto a une garde au sol de 1,20m et fait pas de 180kg

Pardon de faire mon vieux con, mais la course, avant, c'était de la poésie, il n'y avait que très peu de données physiologiques sur lesquelles on s'attardait...c'était l'envie, le dépassement de soi et en avant !! La volonté faisait l'aptitude, la ténacité faisait le talent, il y avait cette mystique sur les longues distances, Le désert n'était pas un refuge pour meurtriers , mais il était, comme il l'avait toujours été jusque là, envoutant , source d'évasion...de rêves. Les pilotes à la Hubert, Cyril, plus tard Peter, étaient des héros aventuriers pour qui on avait une très grande sympathie, sans aucun jugement ecolo-eco-socio--moralo-uno-quem's. Chaque époque fait ses héros, ceux là étaient (et sont) de très bons humains !!
