DALE EARNHARDT JR TALKS ABOUT DRIVING MAZDA MX-5 CUP CAR IN TEST AT MARTINSVILLE

I chatted with Dale Earnhardt Jr minutes after he ran a dozen or so laps in the Mazda MX-5 Cup car (not NASCAR Cup - MAZDA MX-5 Cup).
I was able to run a GoPro in his car while he ran laps along with fellow NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Labonte.
The test was to see if the Mazda MX-5 Cup should consider running a race on an oval, like Martinsville.

He still has the quick hands and it was awesome to see him bring it up to speed lap by lap. Seems like they got the gearing right. Like others have said, I’d root for Dale Jr racing lawnmowers or anything. A race car driver. That says it all.

@kentstephens4770, NASCAR had a 4 cylinder series in the past. It was called the "Dash" series.

this whole idea comes from Moonhead on Twitch, around the holiday season he hosts a 24 hour Mooncar race with MX-5's @ Martinsville on iRacing and raises money for Toys for Tots. I have donated the last 2 years and will donate again this year.

Running an MX5 in an oval is a waste of an MX5. Don't they have "handling tracks" on the infields?

this was all the idea of an obscure KZfaqr called Moonhead. They stole this idea from him and didn't give credit.

Some do, this is an older Spec Miata at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o92go8Kp1t6toHU.html NHMS has a few different layouts it can run for road racing. It's a fairly common format where "oval" part is used then sections dip in and out to created different RR layouts. It can be a double edged sword though, most RR tracks/layouts tend to have elevation changes and with so little horsepower even the tiniest mistake entering an uphill section will KILL laptime... which novice hate and experts love as the punishment is magnified by 10 or rewarded by 10, so it depends on which side of the coin a driver chooses to embrace.
