It might not be the Closest Finish in History, but it's damn near one of the Coolest Finishes in History. Granted, I grew up a big Davey and Jarrett fan, but still, you can't deny the awesomeness that is these last 7+ laps. The Camera Angles, the Sounds, the way Bob Jenkins was announcing, the last 2 laps, The finish itself, Jarrett's in-car celebration, his scream in Victory Lane, the crowd ROARING.......you just can't beat it.

Wow, listen to the crowd when Dale gets out of the car. That proves what a class act DJ is. You know all those people weren't Dale Jarrett fans, but they appreciated him enough to be happy when he won.

Dale Jarrett would eventually earn a total of 32 Winston Cup victories, including three Daytona 500’s (1993, 1996, 2000), and would win the 1999 Winston Cup Championship. He of course is the son of the legendary racer and later legendary broadcaster Ned Jarrett, a two time NASCAR Grand National Series Champion (1961 and 1965), with 50 victories to his name.

I remember watching this race live! I was a big Davey Allison fan so you knew who I was rooting for. I have a VHS tape of this race somewhere. DJ got out in front because of the last pitstop "when I believe if I remember correctly" he went with just feel. or did he just stay out? Can't really remember so long ago. Kind of ironic though that after Davey Allison died I was looking for someone else to root for that drove a Ford and DJ became that person all the way up to he retired.

Great clip. Definitely goes "under the radar" in regards to great finishes. NASCAR misses Bob Jenkins' calls. Need proof? The Busch race at Talladega this year. B. Labonte pulls off an improbable restrictor plate slingshot, and we're hearing about the track lay-out from Jerry Punch. Plain awful. Search for Bobby Labonte Stewart Talladega.

It was legit because the announncers did their homework and made sure they knew their stuff before the covered a race, with all the prep work, and all of the drivers and who they drove for. It was actual work, unlike today which seems to be all about being a public funny personality, Chris Myers(I kid because I care) and the Waltrips, Hammond and the gopher nonsense(I hope they don't EVER do anything like THAT again!) Rutlege Wood, et al just does not seem to be that much of good announcing.

because he was overrated driver who only look out for his self and did what was beneficial to him and his career he would ditch Cale Yarborough to get in the Wood Brothers then ditch the Wood Brothers to go to Joe Gibbs and ditch Joe Gibbs to go to Yates then ditch Yates to go to Waltrip Racing it was all about Dale Jarrett that's why he wasn't ever most popular driver he was an overrated no good for nothing jerk who couldn't drive a race car he was just lucky enough to get an equipment that was better than everybody else's or he would have never won a race
