I’m a nascar fan, but not as knowledgeable as probably most people/ fans of the sport… but this conversation explained and revealed A TON of why we maybe see trouble and issues between teammates. I never realized FULLY that teammates acted like this to each other to this degree. This revealed the answer as to “WHY”. I enjoyed this immensely.

This is a great podcast to learn the history of the sport and all the little things. Dale has had some heavy hitters from the DEI days on the show. Recommend Tony Eury Jr, Steve Park & Ty Norris’s episodes especially.

I love it. 🎉 I remember on NASCAR 09. I had a league I was 13 years old DEI-RCN-15. We had a blast even then in 2008 we didn’t wanna see DEI fall down and out of the sport. Now I love the stories I love all of it. Thanks for sharing 🎉

I've heard of driver rivalries, crew rivalries, but within the same team? That's a whole other level, and most likely explains why the DEI cars are JUGGERNAUTS at certain places back in the day

Happens a lot. At Hendrick, it was two different shops, with the 24 and 48 in one shop and the 5 and 88 were in the other. Dale Jr's fortunes only got better at Hendrick after they switched and the 88 was put with the 48. RCR was famous for Dale Sr not wanted a teammate and almost refused to work with Mike Skinner. Other teams are the same way, with the possible exception of Penske, where I am not sure The Captain would have put up with it.
@ljc1224
@ljc1224 Жыл бұрын
You should listen to the SiriusXM Speedway Legends interview of Robert Yates where he talked about not wanting to become a two-car team because he didn't want to share information. It's eye-opening. And Dale Sr. was never a fan of his teammate Mike Skinner. He didn't want to have to cooperate or share with anyone, really, other than the team he owned. The DEI cars were juggernauts on plate tracks because that's what Dale Sr. wanted. He got together with Richard Childress and Andy Petree to develop the "RAD" engine (Richard, Andy, Dale) that dominated back then.

I looked up the 2001 Freedom 400 at Homestead and Michael finished second to Bill Elliott driving for Evernham. But a spring developed from Germany and used it to finish second at Homestead in '01 for 4000? That's gotta be wild man...

@archieshuford9534
@archieshuford9534 Жыл бұрын
@@jaffleyfifteen5912 I don't care how much faster the drafting speeds are compared to single car runs. The pole speed of 180MPH at the plate tracks is a joke. Another reason I hate modern nascar. If they won't let them go 230ish, the pole speed should be at least in the 195-198 range.

@diychad7268
@diychad7268 Жыл бұрын
@@archieshuford9534 dude they have never let the cars go that fast, there were only a few years where the cars were able to run 200-plus miles an hour without the restrictor-plate and because the cars flipping a lot they put the restrictor plates on, they have used restrictor plates or governed down intakes for close to 40 years now, so I don't know what you mean by you hate modern NASCAR, also just because of the nature and shape and everything of a stock car NASCAR the cars have no stability at really high speeds like that, now granted today's cars with their downforce numbers and everything would have a ton more stability at those kinds of speeds compared to even in the early 2000s, but still if they ran those kinds of speeds everybody would have to be so damn careful around each other in order not to cause crashes that the racing would be boring as hell

This was pretty much the ending era when teams still had some areas where they could use their engineering creativity to have an advantage or at least have the opportunity. This is what Nascar teams were meant to do. I seriously hate the current cookie cutter generation of car with the bad rules, harsh fines and STUPID ASS suspensions,as penalties.

Back then I assumed all teams worked together and had a strategy for every scenario. Over the years mind blowing to learn how independent they all were and that any team work on the track was pure winging it. Called the beer truck. Love that.
