What he was able to do in the test with Alonso's F1 car is absolute proof he knows how to drive the wheels off a car when braking and car control are more important, versus the current cup cars which are very easy to just stay in the throttle all the way through the corners. Really hope he gets a chance to run a full season of IMSA or maybe jump to indycar or F2/1.

He was good before the COT era aswell. It's not the wing that's makes the difference its the lower horsepower in the cars today that require no throttle control at all.

Because he loves it and is willing to commit to it. Johnson said he has no interest in the commitment it would take, it has nothing to do with talent/ability. People would respect him if he was dominating the lower series in equal equipment but he's not, he's has a race-win capable car from Gibbs every time. We saw what happens when he has normal equipment when he raced for his own team, struggling for top-5s and going winless. Look at Harvick, he was cracking off wins in JRM equipment a few years ago just as effortlessly because the cars were that good and it's not a challenge for a cup driver when you have that advantage. He's a good driver, but Johnson dominates him in every stat and accomplishment in the only series that matters where the playing field is level.

Both Busch brothers can drive the wheels off anything they sit in. As far as Jimmie Johnson goes...his 7 championships were bought by Rick Hendrick backed by Lowe's sponsorship. Hendrick has young drivers to invest in now, and, Lowe's is gone. Dear Jimmie, Don't go away mad, just go away! No 8th championship for you. Chad Knaus might get one if he sticks around long enough though.

Yes they did, but in the rules, Cup tracks were the only thing limited at the time. You could test at any non Cup track as many times as you wanted. Kentucky wasn't on the schedule yet and Nashville never was.
