Damasko and Sinn: extremely underrated among today's bling/ancestry/heritage nonsense.

By the way, that Chrono movement is based on the Lemania 5100, not the Valjoux 7750, and that is according to Damasko-"The Damasko DC86 utilizes the Calibre 51 movement, based off of the historic Lemania 5100, with a 50-hour power reserve". And there is a difference on that. The Lemania has a Vertical clutch, the Valjoux doesn't, and the Lemania has a very flat Castle wheel to control the chrono functions located below the dial, while the Valjoux doesn't- The Valjoux uses a switching cam instead that is less elaborate than the castle wheel arrangement. The Vertical clutch for the chrono function is more smoothly when starting the chrono, while the horizontal clutch/pinion of the 7750 is jumpy. Both run at 28800 VPH or 4 Hz.

My Damasko DC67 is the most versatile watch in my collection. It is so unpretentious, and does it’s intended job without complaining. As my daily watch, the Damasko has taken so many whacks, thumps and smacks but is still 100% unblemished. Not even a scuff! It is remarkable … it still looks brand new. The ice-hardened steel is something else, even the bezel. No desk-diving scuffs in the bracelet either. The fully-loomed dial glows all night long. Apart from all of this, the innovative technology on the inside (too much to list) takes the watch to a whole new level. If I had bought the Damasko as my first watch, I doubt whether I would ever have purchased anything else.. including my Omega and Tudor. I just cannot see how any other watch manufacturer can compete with this.

That DC72 is a beauty. Love the simplicity and legibility. I think I'll like the no-date DC70 even better, for the even greater simplicity and symmetry.

Oh hi Marc, your fellow DC86 Orange brother here. Others from the collection are still fighting for wrist time. Highly recommend upgrading to the bracelet, after 1 year of desk diving it still looks brand spanking new!

The one I like the most is the orange DC86 chrono with that Lemania-5100 like arrangement of the concentric minute counter. But I would prefer to have a Tachyimeter bezel instead of the diver's bezel, or to have the tachymeter scale below the glass, and the rotating diver bezel outside. And no rubber or leather bands, I hate them. I would prefer the Italian Mesh bracelet, but those are my tastes.

Love the color coordinated chrono hands. My Fortis has that and it is a snap to read at an instant. Trying hard to justify adding one of these to the collection.

Hi, another great review as always, could i ask you a question about the diameter of these watches. I normally dont go above 42mm for my 7 inch wrist, and this watch is 42mm but it's only the aggressive notches on the bezel that add the extra 2mm. So i'm wondering visually is your eye drawn to the black bezel at 42mm rather than the bezel at 44mm? i'm hoping it wears more like a 42 rather than a true 44? could you give me your thoughts please. Thanks

Would love to see a Dc86 with a matte blue dial. Been considering a Tudor heritage for this reason but if the Dc86 had one I'd really consider it

Very ingenious , I'm a fan of Lemania 5100. Have a few questions: 1. What is the main difference between black and non-black versions? I see both are hardened? 2. Do you ship to EU? 3. what is the warranty ?

Damasko chronographs are among my favorites along with Sinn. Super legible dials and great wrist presence are important to me.

I have the Damasko DC57 black chronograph with the fully lumed dial. The ETA Valjoux 7750 runs +3 per day. The Damest coating is extremely scatch resistant. It's a great watch.

Will you review their DC86/2? The updated version of this you have in stock. Would very much like to see it as no one else has a video review of them.

My DA46 is an absolute monster. I prefer it to some of my more expensive watches. I have my eye on a central minutes chrono next. Highly recommend Damasko!

Good stuff. Would love it if they brought a bot more sophistication to their case designs, but the dial is fantastically simple and readable.

Wearing a Sinn 556i today. I really hope they carry this center-minutes chrono movement into a sub 40mm case. Apparently, my grail watch hasn't even been designed yet. I'll be keeping an eye out, Damasko!

Lange and Damasko both came out in the 90's. Lange HAS history, but you would need to sell you house to have one. 'I want a German watch', and I know the quality I am getting with Damasko.

Absolutely love the look of the DC70. I am a fan of central minutes chronos and own a few watches based on the Lemania 5100. I know this is a modded Valjoux/Eta but still very keen to buy. My only gripe is the leather strap leaving a lot of case depth exposed between the lugs. I cannot find any reference for a bracelet on the DC70/72. I can see it as an aftermarket option for the DC80 series. Does anyone know if I could get a DC70 on a bracelet??

Those are really nice chronographs. I have about 40 watches but no chronographs. Maybe it is time to change that. Damasko seems to make a very high quality watch.

Marc maybe an idea for an islander dial is pearlescent automotive finishes. They can be stunning like a pearl white, pearl red or green. It can look just as good as anything out there. Just a suggestion.

Love me the DC-80 since it came out. The DC-70 might be my new aspiration. Wish it were a little thinner.

Just noticed Seiko have recently released a homage of an Islander watch. They say it is a limited edition 140th anniversary with white dial (5KX) SRP ;)

Can the 24 hr subdial be set to another time zone or it slaved to the hour hand? Great choice going all 12 hr bezels on the 86’s. I’ve had the same theory about being easy to read the minutes off the bezel as long as it’s marked all the way around. Poor man’s GMT as some call it.

Being of boringly practical nature, while I like the looks of some chronographs, I struggle to find an application for them that another tool would not be better at. Judging from the comments, a lot of people here own chronographs. Do you use them as chronographs for something other than amusement?
