Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

Hey 🥳 Happy Birthday Steve! For decades ever since I can remember the California Condors were endangered through breeding centers which I traveled nearby weekly as a kid. Took 25 birds to today’s 450 across multiple locations. Their latest big threat of the past from lead poisoning, eating animals with buckshot in them, until the bill passed requires use of nonlead ammunition statewide for the taking of all wildlife. So Vultures can do all right, there’s hope! 😊

I was in London 9 days in April and 8 days in Paris. Miss the culture, the people , the food and beverages, history, and beautiful architecture. If my family would return with me, I would go and stay!

We live in deep south western ontario canada. Kingsville, and are right on the migration path of our Turkey Vultures. Every fall they soar and glide effortlessly as they make there way south. Always enjoyable watching these essential birds flying in our skies

Sarah, many years ago I visited Parlange Plantation in Louisiana. In true southern hospitality, Lucy Parlange greeted me from the upper veranda, “Darlin, do you play the harp?” I replied no, but I have always wanted to. Lucy invited me in, gave me a tour of their 1750 home, served refreshments and we visited while I learned the history of house and the famous Sargent painting Madame X aka Amélie Avegno Gautreau. Amélie’s grandparents I believe were the founders of the plantation and she lived there a while. I saw a similar painting while I was there but the right strap was hanging off her shoulder. Miss Lucy said the painting was shared by the family and a museum in France I believe and would travel back and forth. I know Sargent painted over the original and moved the strap up onto her shoulder to calm the scandal it caused. The house has a history of hosting both Union and Confederate generals during the US Civil War where the owners hid their silver to keep it safe. Miss Lucy invited me to stay when I returned and gifted me a cookbook from the region. I treasure it to today.

We have turkey vultures around our acreage in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. They are incredible majestic creatures and we feel so lucky when they fly over.

Hi Sara & Stephen, Watching the presentation today it brought to mind a visit to downtown Miami with friends. They pointed out to me that there is always a flock of vultures flying and circling the sky above the courthouse in Miami. The locals think appropriately amusing, as do I. Mark & Scott

Happy Birthday Steve! There are a flock of buzzards that roost about a half mile from my house (suburban Midwest USA). I love seeing them gliding around and around in endless circles. No, they are not the prettiest of birds by any means, but they are necessary and are majestic in flight with their long wing spans. It is especially cool to see a group of them flying at different heights, spread out across the sky.

Several years ago in Florida there was a long freeze. It killed so many fish, that you could smell them rotting when it warmed up. Groups of vultures came through and cleaned up each area. It was very impressive and showed me how well nature works. ❤

Yes, turkey vultures are quite common in SW Ontario, and always a sign of a healthy ecosystem ... when they start disappearing, you know the local wildlife is in danger. We love seeing their distinctive pinions as they fly - the look like graceful fingers.

I thought the way the walls were painted in the Queens house was amazing, not sure if it would be as great in the Chateau.
