Part 1: • Damion Hall on Being A...
--------
In this clip, Damion Hall talked with Shawn Prez about life post-'Guy' and what his relationship was like with his brother Aaron and group member Teddy Riley, respectively. Damion laid out what he thought were some of the reasons behind the disbanding and what he thought could've been handled differently on Teddy Riley's part. He even explained that Blackstreet, the group Teddy Riley founded after Guy, would never become the R&B standard bearers that Guy represented.

Guy should've done another album around 92-93, but when you've got a genius music producer like Teddy Riley being asked to produce all these other artists, the original group is always gonna fall to the wayside. And it probably wasn't very profitable for Teddy to do another Guy album, when he's creating new acts that he has total control over, as opposed to being just a member of Guy.

GUY LEFT A LOT of money on the table as Damion said. Too much egos amongst the guys especially Teddy. If it wasn't for Aaron's unique voice on the first album the speed of success that Teddy enjoyed wouldn't have been there(Not that Teddy wouldn't have made it, but look at producers at the time like Trakmasterz(Poke and Tone) and years it took before they were known). By the time Guy got together for their 3rd album they had already lost their fanbase to R KELLY, JODECI, SILK, BASIC BLACK, BOYZ TO MEN, BBD etc. MY OPINION, GUY should have surpassed New Edition with their sound and culture of that time but egos and money got in the way. We were told GENE GRIFFIN was the issue the first time round, but what about later....

and also, Aaron hall said he was gonna do a solo album, so that’s when Teddy decided to join Blackstreet whom he created for a friend, he didn’t initially want to join cuz he wanted to stay with Guy, but hearing that Aaron hall was gonna do a solo album, is why he did his own thing. Teddy is loyal, and is the best producer ever

@@tlig he said a lot. But he never said Teddy needed Guy. What he did said was Guy was the foundation that really took him to the next level. The same thing could be said with MJ, the Jackson 5 is what started it all for him. That’s the foundation. Same thing with K-Ci and JoJo of Jodeci, or Beyoncé of Destiny’s Child.

Title is misleading. Teddy produced 7 out of 14 songs on the album. MJ co-produced those 7 songs with Teddy. Teddy didnt even produce the first single, Black or White. Which was the biggest single. Stop making it seem like he produced the whole d@mn album.
@MrMASess
@MrMASess 3 жыл бұрын
Teddy produced the best songs on the album with the exception of maybe Black and White. Even though Michael co-produced the songs with Teddy, it is obvious that Michael’s input was minimal because those sounds have Teddy’s imprint on them. Michael had so much respect for Teddy that he still had Teddy on his last album, Invincible. I bought the Dangerous cassettes like 10 times, so I am very familiar with it. By the way, I am a big MJ fan who owns most of his work in cassettes and cds.

People always mention Teddy Riley and he does deserve a lot of credit but the other producer who rarely gets mentioned is Bill Bottrell. He produced the title song Dangerous, which was taken from Streetwalker, Who Is It, Give it to Me and he is L.I.T.B in Black or White.

Teddy gave a new sound to music he had an era of music with the new Jack swing , Keith Sweat , Guy , songs for All green , Celine Dion , Al B.Sure , Michael Jackson Blackstreet and Damion when they put you on the first album was already done so you should be thankful for Teddy because he's the only reason that you are relevant
