One of the longest skiing descents in Europe over to 2400 meters to 1600 meters is possible the top drag lift from the final climb was unfortunately closed at the time I was in Les Deux Alpes.
I filmed the run using a Gopro hero 10 black originally in 5k but KZfaq compresses the video down to 4k I extracted the telemetry using Gopro telemetry overlay.
So I didn't hit 100 KPH when I smoothed out the data I realised it was more like 97.4 KPH I already made the thumbnail and a guy gotta make a living somehow lift passes are expensive haha.
Chapters:
0.00 Intro
4.25 First flat
4.57 End
5.59 Second flat
9.24 End
11.29 Third flat through the town
12.41 End Mont De Lans
Thanks for watching!

Nice run! I struggle to get anywhere near 100kph, as I'm usually wearing a summit jacket over my windstopper, which creates far too much resistance to go that fast. I used to ski Val d'Isere at least once a season, which has some decent runs from the top of the glacier, though haven't been to France since the start of the pandemic. One of my favourite runs is in Ischgl, Austria, which is 11km, top to bottom, with a good mix of black and reds, including some mogul and off-piste options. There are longer runs (17k), where you can ski into Switzerland, though much of it's quite flat and it can get very busy with duty free shoppers. The main thing that stands out for me when comparing France with Austria is that the best Austrian resorts have better lifts than most of the resorts in France and it tends to be a bit cheaper too. Incidentally, and without wanting to seem too critical, some of the shots where your shadow appears suggests you occasionally use too much upper body in your turns, which reduces your control over the skis, and although you are clearly an inter-advanced skiier, you could give a tiny bit more consideration to other skiiers, as even at 30mph, if one of them turns into you you're going to hurt them. Just saying!
@davidkovacs5432
@davidkovacs5432 Жыл бұрын
For many years I've been skiing in France, because its just soo cheap, compared to other countries, and oh how much I miss the Austrian lifts.
@gigmcsweeney8566
@gigmcsweeney8566 Жыл бұрын
@@davidkovacs5432 Yes, the fact that you can still do all-inclusive chalet deals does make France a bit cheaper, especially as many of the old-style guesthouses in the best Austrian resorts, which used to be excellent value for the money, have now been turned into 'boutique hotels'. If you're skiing at either end of the season there aren't that many good options that are snow sure, so Solden was always our first trip of the year, usually in late November. Dec-Jan in Ischgl, or maybe Val d'Isere or Meribel if Ischgl was booked up, which started to happen when the rich Russians discovered the place. They'd book up all the best hotels and there'd be a trickle down effect, with even the most basic hotels charging premium rates. Though Ischgl is still hard to beat for a last hurrah at the end of the season.

I watched the whole video and enjoyed it very much, but I also thought he was passing people too close (some times). It can be quite scary when people pass you like that and can cause an accident even if you didn't touch them. Hi Yu Him Law, Thanks for your complement. I would recommend Alpe D'Huez because it has a really large bowl of easy runs just abouve the resort. As you go up the mountain the gradient of the runs tends to get steeper. This is the opposite to les Deux Alpes I think it makes it easier to learn.

This looks like it would be one of the most fun things to do ever! I have been inline skating for years, but have always wanted to try skiing! It would feel weird not being able to do crossovers and fast running strides, but I do enjoy a good downhill run even on my skates! Hopefully all that experience will do me more good than harm when I finally decide to start skiing! Maybe they have shorter skis that would feel a little closer to inlines...

A very good video. Thank You. For those of you wishing to practice the longest run at Les 2 Alpes in the winter, you can go from the max top to the min bottom, which is from 3600m to 1000m. Instead of turning right when descending to Les 2 Alpes as depicted in Alex Wrigglesworth ' s video, you turn left and descend to Venosc. It is 2600m of vertical fall in a very beautiful and very long run. The only " detail " is the enormous amount of time you lose to climb from 1000m back to 3600m ! Just 2 things more : you need to be a skilled skier and you only can ski to Venosc in january when snowy. I wish you all good runs and I wish myself to go and ski someday in the US, which is my dream , a dream I have written in my to-do list I have written : skiing in the USA, skiing in Asia or New Zealand, skiing in South America 🎿⛷⛷⛷🎿

Great long descent and high speed! 💪👍 Though looks like it consists from blue runs only! As I remember you were unlucky to be in Soelden in the lockdown time last year, and many runs were closed to try the longest descent in Soelden. I think the longest descent in Soelden is more interesting. One question. How long time your GoPro 10 accumulator worked in the cold and at what temperature? Do you have Enduro accumulator? Besides my Sony XDR 3000, I used GoPro 10 this year as well having regular accumulator and sometimes it did not want to work even at about minus 7-8 degree.
@Alexskiing
@Alexskiing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I would love to try the long decent in Soelden. I just use the normal battery's but I keep them in my pocket and until I need to use them so they stay warm. When you start the GoPro make sure you obtain GPS signal then start the recording. I use 4k 60fps when it starts recording it tends to be fine as the heat generated by the camera keeps the battery warm enough to work at much lower temperatures.

@Alexskiing
@Alexskiing 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not an instructor but I have met alot off people with similar skiing issues. I would say confidence in skiing is the most important thing when learning. Going from pizza to parallel it's going to be easier on a slightly steeper slop. All the best
@tkhotatia1163
@tkhotatia1163 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if it translates, but one person gave me a tip for inline turning on skates (which I presume is very similar to a parallel turn on skis) that really helped me in learning how to turn better. They told me to bend my ankle towards the direction I want to go with the leading foot, then commit and lean into it some, and the following foot will naturally fall into place. It's all pretty difficult to explain with this kind of stuff. >.< I think that with stuff like this, the only way to truly understand is to experience it yourself haha. So keep practicing!
