Damon Albarn's Dr Dee live session
Damon Albarn, among other things the multi-talented Blur and Gorillaz frontman, visits the Guardian studio with a baroque ensemble to perform two songs from his opera Dr Dee. The opera charts the life of mathematician, occultist and royal consort John Dee (1527-1609), and comes to the English National Opera in June. The group perform two tracks, O Spirit, Animate Us, in which the old John Dee prays to God along with his daughter, as well as Apple Carts

Damon is really something else, can't say this with many but I love every bit of work he's done! Blur, Gorillaz, Rocketjuice & The Moon and his solo projects have all been fantastic

This is beautiful, like too much! This songs, specially apple carts has a thing in me that seems I can travel to this time very bucolic melancholy but with a little bit of hope?? I can see it but I have never been to Europe and it feels like I know KNOW the feeling of the place, weird. It always brings me to such emotions where I’m on the verge of tears, beautiful. Damon conveyed it beautifully!

To me it is really stange, when people say Damon is a genius and other exalted things. What I see and appreciate about him is for example the variety of musical instruments he's dealing with and love for the right tune. Not many pop and rock musicians do it, unfortunately, but it is what makes music interesting.

I read your honest opinion after 4 years and still I came on hope of change. I’ll try prove you wrong sr... I hope I don’t fail hard trying to do so. First argument: Only genius realize and change what others cant see to understand and value. The true is not always an obvious true to the masses and still he stands for great sounding music and experimentalism reinventing himself in every song. You don’t have to love his singing or lack of virtuosity to understand that he represents way more than technics... He’s an amazing songwriter, visionary, performer, artist and skilled musician that will keep inspiring innovation on the generations to come. If that’s not geniality we will have to change the meaning of the word on the dictionary. Brother, as a musician, animator, and great admirer of Damons work I will politely ask you to reconsider your comment. Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to be rude forcing my point of view on internets like most kids do nowadays. You can of course keep with your opinions but I’m pretty sure you will find plenty of experienced artists to back up for this genius recognition and respect. Its about giving credits to people like him that devote life to greater causes. Because his music can touch people all over the world, giving hope, healing souls, and making people change perspective about life. The last argument is probably the best... You will agree that Damon is weird, nobody can take this from him and you know all geniuses are a bit strange when surrounded by normals, don’t they? I admired your criticism on a sea of dead blind followers. I’m still open for a polite debate if you want to after all this years of indignation and rebellion against the machine! Please prove me wrong, I dare you! :-)
