At a guess, no ventilation and the outside has been repointed using cement and not lime mortar.

Cut nails boss standard fixing for the last few hundred years for us chippy’s..that’s a lot of mould for sure 👍

The daylight at the frames is the FENSA approved trickle venting.🙄 We had some fitted and I told them don't do any finishing I'll do it propely myself after insulating the jambs etc. Just got them to leave a load of trim and a box of mastic since they'd priced it in.

Literally got an original ceiling without an ounce of mould and you’re gonna board over it? Modern materials cause mould. Use lime plaster in old buildings.

You can see the room has been skimmed in gypsum plaster. Gypsum is not breathable and is conducive to mould growing. Lime plaster is breathable and regulates the humidity in the room. Due to the PH, mould cannot grow on lime plaster either.

Refreshing someone actually understands how buildings work. The number of videos I've seen where builders simply blame cement based pointing.

Everyone slags off gypsum but my house 1850s has it, and it has no issues except penetrating damp with damp spots. It breaths fine. Strange.

i dont understand why the window fitter leaves a small gap and its a huge problem... yet you add vents to the windows and its the best thing in the world ???

There looks to be a couple of trickle vents at the top of the two outer windows. Also got natural trickle vent from not being sealed in around the frames 😂

You shouldn't be installing PIR on external solid walls.

@@SDRobertsPlastering PIR used on solid external wall sets up prime conditions for interstitial condensation? The best way to eliminate that risk is to used a naturel fiber insulation material. Calculate where the dew point has moves to in this buildup with PIR..

@@kevocos Interstitial condensation is caused when IWI systems are installed incorrectly or on walls suffering with penetrating damp. I've been doing this a long time. Air tightness is important. The new dew point will be the glass on the window hence why proper trickle vents are advised. Natural fibre insulation is an option for lime built properties
