As a Lions fan a review wouldn’t have helped us. The refs claim 70 reported. The video evidence shows a little different story but it’s all hearsay. That said it does appear that the referee situation has been dealt with after the fact. Doesn’t change the outcome but sure does contradict Roger G’s stance of best officiating this year. It’s been terrible all year and I’m an official.

The Lions did not get screwed tonight. #68 was not an eligible receiver. As such, the Cowboys are not going to cover him. He was open because it was not legal for him to catch the ball. He also was an illegal man down field and would have been flagged for that if the pass had not gone to him. There was a 3rd infraction on the same play as stated by Troy Aikman. I believe it was an illegal formation because #68 had to be covered on the line of scrimmage by an eligible receiver; since he was not. The bottom line: linemen who are not usually eligible receivers have to report their intentions to the ref who announces it publicly for the benefit of the defense.

The replay showed #68 going to the ref and reporting himself eligible. The ref blew it and thought it was #70. Watch the ESPN sportcenter replay. #68 reported in. Even Cowboy Troy believed that. Cheap win for Cowboys.

@reinc83 obviously, I have no way of knowing. In my limited research, I have found no rule prohibiting them from doing so. I found no rule that limits the number of players that can report. My not finding the rule does not necessarily mean such a rule doesn't exist. Given that Goff directed 68 to go to the ref in conjunction with the fact that Goff threw the pass to 68 and the report that they worked on that play all week, would certainly suggest that 68 did report.

I understand why you are saying he should have just kicked the XP and go to OT after getting absolutely FUCKED over on the successful 2-pt conversion. HOWEVER, hear me out. Playing more football is the worst thing you can do at this point in the season. Even if we win out we aren't guaranteed improving our position. We are locked. We are at least hosting a game. Nothing changes with the loss. We can potentially get better seeding with a win. Go for the win in regulation and don't risk injury in overtime. Maximize your potential gain while limiting your potential risk. Loved this call all 3 times we did it. If you think he's dumb for not kicking it. I think this is a weird instance where going to overtime for a win is more so high risk low reward, compared to trying to go for the win with a 2-pt conversion.

@@46JCKin the situation with the lions, their seeding was very much dependent on the outcome of today’s game, as a cowboys fan, the call did not make any sense, if they both told the ref they were lining up as eligible receivers, then that shouldn’t of costed them the game, but in that situation where the call’s already been made and their pushed 5 yards back, they should’ve went for the extra point and make a run in OT, they had all of the momentum necessary to do so
