I agree with Steve Maxwell. The forces are hard on the knees, hips, spine . Do what you want. But I felt this exactly what Steve said also.

@@Emptyssify The reason I quit swinging those bells. I felt my knees, low back. It's a powerful movement, lots of forces going on at the joints. Even with good form..

I disagree with him publicly and repeatedly misattributing injuries of others to KBs. In the SF forums Brett Jones clarified he had 9 surgeries, not 9 knee surgeries. Pavel is well known for an army elbow injury and yet into his late 40 was ranked in 2020 in Kumite competition for Kyokushin Karate. I would have a hard time believing minimalist KB programming came about because he couldn’t do more than two movements. And which movements? - swings are still there in both SS and Q&D with TGUs and push-ups (dips for Pavel…DIPS), respectively; those are both very shoulder and elbow engaged movements! What other apparently high-hip/knee-impacting movement is there that Maxwell would be indicting? Comparably lightweight front squats? Comparably very lightweight goblet squats?

@@NGAOPC I experienced what I experienced. I'm 55 now, first workout at 13 years. Bodybuilding style training mostly, without the steroids. I know my body. You do what you think is best ofcourse. I'll do that just as well. I don't care for Pavel btw. He's just one guy, and not my working out Messiah. 😉

@@Ve-suviusthan I’m sorry, and that would be to you and not you and as you imply, not everyone - and you should be assessed for other physical problems if 53lbs of resistance is damaging to you. But most importantly his claims entailed patent lies about others injuries. That should matter to you and everyone. I’m 52, growing up I was a 6,4” beanpole and weighed seldom more than 170 until I was 30. That isn’t speaking for everyone, as it isn’t everyone. I’m now 197 typically, KBs, barbells and ruckmarching. Far healthier than I was in my 20s. That isn’t healthy for everyone but some combination for a great many people, as are a great many other activities I don’t PERSONALLY do.

Stuff like this is the very reason why I only listen to one person when it comes to training. Jack Lalanne. Though he's left this earth many years ago, the things he was saying 70 years ago still holds true today. Best thing about Jack is that he would never get involved with this type of bickering and arguing. So many people - including medical doctors, sports coaches, etc. used to call him a "crackpot", "crazy", etc., yet Jack never bothered with them. He just TRAINED, and never paid any attention to the gossipers and naysayers. Until I see any of today's so called "fitness experts" shackle their hands and feet, and pull 70 rowboats for 1.5 miles, at age 70, then maybe I'll start paying attention to what they have to say. Until then, I'll continue to follow Jack's advice.

Disappointed to see Steve turn on folks like this. If you're going to make a radical claim and shift in training modalities that contradicts your old colleagues, you really should do a better job fact checking before you publicly spout off. Embarrassing for Steve and I can't really look at him the same now. Kudos to Coach DJ for keeping his response, all things considered, classy.

@@uberjackkde I don't think he's right - at least, I don't think the proof Steve is saying is self-evident is actually proof or self-evident. I think he's more likely making the common mistake of correlation being causation with the Kettlebells injuries stuff. I also think he's not on serious scientific ground with his claims about time under tension being the most important, about weight itself not mattering, not training to failure vs training to failure. I am not saying his new preferred methods for training don't work. But I think he's throwing everything else under the bus without very good scientific reason other than he thinks it is higher injury risk and/or unnecessary. Thinking those things are true does not make them true. I like Steve and he's well intentioned. I don't agree with the confidence with which he's rejecting certain training modes for everyone.

Well my man Dan didn't bring any fucking evidence either more specifically scientific evidence he is just saying well people are predisposed to have certain issues well duh wtf. Was Charles poliquin a retard he said the kettlebell swing is 🐎💩 just aggravates back issues and that's what happend to me so why the heck would I accept an anecdotal evidence from Dan over Charles tried both their principles got banged up with one still trying to heal from it without a surgery years later.

Marry Lou Retton had double hip replacements later in her adult life. Her hips gave her a lot of pain while she competed as a gymnast in the Olympics. This was from a deformity in her hips.

I am a big fan of Dan John and the difference here is that Dan speaks the truth and Steve is clearly bitter and resentful about something and blaming others for his own issues !

This was quite disappointing. I have huge admiration for Steve and have learned a lot from him, but this all-round bashing of kettlebells just comes across as immature & excessive (almost childish - what personal daemon are you fighting, Steve?). Why do people always have to swing - pun intended - between mythization and demonization? Dan John's tempered, ground-to-earth, middle-way approach is much more reasonable. Every training implement has its function and use; if used poorly, it'll mess you up; if used wisely, it can lots of good. Hats off to Dan for being such a gentleman.

I love kettlebells to death. As a personal trainer who focuses on minimalistic, injury mitigating, time restricted training whos inured himself time and time again doing traditional weight lifting with good form. It's just part of training sometimes. I'm a supporter of kettlebells and have had many clients make tremendous progress doing primarily kettlebell circuits. Theres no perfect system, but 1 20-35lb kettlebell can give you huge benefits and retrain your body to utilize hips and mitigate back injuries. Love steve but I think hes wrong

I've lost some respect for Mr. Maxwell. I used to believe in his skillset but not now. Who cares what he thinks. He's changed in a way I'm surprised.

Hmm, he likens what Maxwell said to insulting someone based on the color of their skin, then says "if you're a little white kid from Salt Lake City". Uhhh, what? I get what he's saying, but nowadays I wouldn't make any remarks about skin color on video. Gregory as always your channel and what you are doing is awesome!
